Since I only have one real source to buy coal in this area, Tractor Supply, I don't have the luxury of shopping around for the best deals like a lot of you in the east have. I saw an e-mail come through from them for a 20% coupon on closeout items so I called the closest store to see if coal was included. That manager said it wasn't included, but he thought they had 9 bags of nut in back and said the best he could do would be $5/bag for nut but the rice was $4.49. I said I would buy the nut anyway because the normal cost is $5.99 with %5 off if I buy pallets and when they went to find it they discovered the inventory was incorrect and they had none at all. I had to work at a big Farm Show in Omaha this week so Wednesday I called the Omaha TSC and found out they had 62 bags left. The lady said it would be $4.49/bag so I told her I'd be over after the farm show and pay for it. I asked if it was Kimmels and they didn't even know what I was asking, so I wanted to go into the back and look at it. It was all piled up on one stack and the top bags were Kimmels so I was satisfied. I went back up front to pay for it and told them I'd be back Thursday with my truck to get it. When the cashier handed me the credit card receipt to sign it had a lower price than I had figured out and I told him he made a mistake, it wasn't enough money. He said, "No, that's right, $4.49 a bag, but since you're taking it all we took another %5 off." $4.27 a bag!!! I sure wasn't going to argue with that! Yesterday when we loaded it I found out only 12 bags were Kimmels and the unbroken pallet was Lehigh. I've never had any of that but a lot of you have said it's good coal so I guess I'll find out! Anyway, I have a great start on next year's supply at a pretty good price I think!

Jerry, congrats on the great deal! If I did the math correctly, you paid the equivalent of $213.50 a ton. For bagged Anthracite coal in
Nebraska! For comparison, last Fall I paid $210. per ton for delivered bulk nut in Pa. Getting a whole skid of Lehigh was the icing on the cake. It's great that Tractor Supply has made coal accessible to many, far from the US Anthracite fields.

I to got a price of $4.49 last spring. My store said they would not put it on sale and then did. They are saying the same this year no sale price. I stop weekly to see when they will change their mind. About 2 weeks ago before the thaw the said they had six tons frozen in. I am sure it thawed out, but we are do for a large March storm middle of next week which might delay their "no sale \ onsale price"

I saw Lehigh rice coal at my TSC for 1.99 per bag. They are ready to move it bad. Shame I don't have a stoker stove. Lol. I don't believe mine would like that rice.

No address in your profile yet..

No address of the TSC you mentioned,it would be helpful for other members to look at your profile address & then decide if they would like to go get that rice coal from your TSC. :)

Are you guys saying there are some TSC that are selling LA coal? 1st it was Kimmel, then Reading, and now Lehigh? That's pretty diverse. Wonder how that works. :gee:

We buy from TSC - some stores sell out, some don't even carry it. The bag is generic with dist by tsc on it. Nut coal. $4.99.

We have a nearby feed store that has another brand, better, I forgot the name of it. They wash it. that's all I remember. But I spoke to the man about it - it costs more. He really discouraged me saying to be sure I want it before I buy it because he couldn't take it back. Then he said it's stove coal, not nut coal. He said it's a lot bigger and my stove might not handle it. He said it's about the size of the biggest piece of nut coal that we'd get in a bag. That seemed strange because the stove handles the big pieces of nut coal. Anyway, in a pinch it would be nice to have a nearby seller.

I was worried it would be Miner's Choice. I heard some stores had that too. No one seems to know what that really is.
