The coal specs that I've seen show about 88% carbon. Therefore a ton of coal would be 1760 pounds of carbon. Carbon has an atomic weight of 12 and oxygen is 16 so a CO2 would be 12+16+16 = 44

44 is bigger than 12 by a factor of 3.66

1760×3.66 = 6441

So one ton of coal produces 3.2 tons of CO2 if I did that right.

I'm sure that the dealer would never think to just build this into his price right? Us little folks always pay the tax.

BTW, Vermont used to be exempt from heating fuel tax...kind of. They've had a 3/4% tax that dealers just ate...sure...but could not itemize on the bill so the customer never knew about it. Last year it was to sunset like all well thought out taxes do. They could not do without that money so they decided to make it a full 2% and at least allow dealers to itemize it so the public could see.

It will happen in CT sooner or later. VT is also looking into a carbon tax scheme.

Just started job hunting in NH. There's no way in hell this won't go thru in this godforsaken communist state. They won't stop till every little town in CT squeezed dry. The part that is the most galling is how they are going to graciously give us some of the money back. But only after they get their cuts, and pay off the urban scum that pulls the blue D lever like the lemmings they are. To hell with them I'll pay extra just have a shipper pick it up in PA rather than pay their damned tax.

Excellent idea about the purchase in PA v CT.

Word of warning: MA residents are flocking to NH (lower taxes) and then are trying to convert it to being like MA.

Stay in MA ya commies !

Time to build a wall to contain these commies !

The Mount Washington steamship in Lake Winnipesaukee needs an engineer. A nuclear reactor would make a great upgrade.

One of the main reasons why my Sister and BIL moved further north from Rindge area to Silver lake /Conway area - to get away from all those moving into south NH from Mass and trying to change the area.

Not to dissuade anyone from NH though a "born in the south boy" whose been up here for ~20 years is retiring and moving down to SC...in fact...Conway SC. He said there's a lot of his brethren still down there...though he did say if someone like me (Yankee) went down there I'd need a sponsor to live anywhere other than the city and even then.....
