CT Carbon Tax on Fossil Fuels (Coal included) -Proposed Bill

CT Carbon Tax on Fossil Fuels (Coal included) -Proposed Bill

Have a look at this gem.

https://www.cga.ct.gov/2017/TOB/h/pdf/2 ... R00-HB.pdf

Proposed by the same Democrat that wants to permit hospitals to upon death (at least for now) harvest your organs unless you prior "opt -out".

Its all just too good.

15\$ per ton of generated co2? What dose a ton of burn coal produce in co2?

Re: CT Carbon Tax on Fossil Fuels (Coal included) -Proposed Bill

Here's the cost breakdown at the proposed \$15/ton of co2 emitted (with no more than ~\$5/ton yearly increases BTW)
************
Pounds of CO2 emitted per million British thermal units (Btu) of energy for various fuels: Coal (anthracite) 228.6
************
Therefore assuming 10K BTU per lb coal, every 100 #'s of coal emits 228.6 pounds of C02
************
Therefore 2000 #'s of coal emits 4,572 #'s of C02
************
This implies a ton of coal's tax would be (4572/2000) or 2.28 x \$15/ton =
\$ 34.28

One ton of coal produces 3 tons of CO2 roughly.

I think there is a flaw in the math. How can emissions weigh more than the original? The addition of oxygen?

Oil and gas too. Seems to be a tax on electric utilities. We already have among the highest prices for electricity.

Appreciate a validation of the ~ 228 lbs per million btu's ..

This is all the better reason to have coal shipped in by the tractor trailer load.

Home heating fuels are exempt from taxes in CT. Thats why they tax the propane dealer and not his customer here in CT. Clever, eh?

Coaledsweat, this is the article that made me aware of a proposed home heating oil tax. The Bill as read also includes coal suggesting IMO coal sold for residential use in CT.

Times seem to be a changin here in the glorious state of Connecticut. Even the inference of this tax is bothersome especially for low income households...

They had the oil one back in 2013, it died in committee IIRC.

Our coal is already expensive at 290-325 a ton, let alone an additional 30\$ tax

Re: CT Carbon Tax on Fossil Fuels (Coal included) -Proposed Bill

Malloy and the democrats in this state are trying everything that they can do to drive the residents of the rural areas out of their state. Our town was receiving 216,000 dollars a year for education cost grants (ECS). Last year it was 56,000 in ECS this year zippo. They also want our small town to pay 1/3 of the state teachers pension fund which for our town would be 411,000 annually. They also want to eliminate all road grant programs for my town. This is all contained in a news letter sent from our first selectman that I received in the mail today. Now this f*%#king tax on home heating products including coal. I am a retired person living on a fixed income and have to be frugal how I spend my money now they want to tax my coal. Their plan seems to be to bankrupt the rural fixed income people by making the frugal towns raise the property tax to the point that we have no option but to leave.

This plays into the democrats hand perfectly because us rural folks are mostly republicans.
