Another sad day for "Rock & Roll" but a day we all will see, 90 isn't a bad run at all! As I believe it was the Righteous Bros. sang if there is a rock & roll heaven I know they'll have a hell of a band.

The Chuck sure did it his way. He wasn't forgotten, and if anything,he blazed a trail right through those early days of Rock-n-Roll !

While he was just a tad before my time, his influence just kept making itself a larger and larger presence........

Well, I guess I shouldn't expect you to understand Fred. That happens to be a remake of one of Chuck's most popular songs by one of the Godfathers of metal. A very prestigious gesture.

Lee, I understand perfectly-we could do 100 pgs. of Chuck Berry remakes--BUT, that's just what they are--remakes. Sorry Bo-Diddley.

I was going thru stuff in the garage today & found a harmonica a player gave me as a youngster & then thought about the Heavens Rock & Roll Band that I had mentioned. Got a call from a friend that had also been given a harmonica by the same gentleman I found out that he too had passed so here's hoping they can use one hell of a blues player. Cleaned that harmonica up & guess what, after all these years I still can't get it to sound like I want.
The man's name was Jimmy Cotton & used to come to town & join up with some others & play till the wee hours, one of the only times we were allowed to stay up. Bringing back good memories!

Actually not a bad remake and Im just glad it wasnt a link to a Pat boone version... if you know the story there of all of Pats song remakes. Chuck Berry was supposed to play at the annual Buddy Holly death anniversary concert in Clear Lake Iowa just a few years ago. Its a huge event and Buddy's widow and Richie Valens sisters often show up, people from all over the world. I was trying to find a ticket to go see Chuck as they sold out quick. A month or so before the show Chuck had health problems and they replaced him with Pat Boone  I was glad I didnt find a ticket.

Chuck was still doing shows at least a couple years ago near his home, maybe even since then. Now thats someone that loves music! One of the very early pioneers of Rock that left behind a true legacy of music. I always had some of his music on my Ipod at work that I hooked to a radio. Everyone liked his songs, even the young people that didnt know who he was. The early rock, to me, was faster paced. Maybe not as loud but often it was fast, and darned good!

I consider imitation to be a form of flattery & normally if done right it can be very pleasing even to the original artist but some can only do one style & are far better off sticking to it & not straying. CB have a style & showmanship that was pretty much all his own, I worked a few oldies concerts that he was in & was amazed at what he could still do. Never had much problems with the oldies but the HM & don't even know what to call some of the others ended up being really hard work & glad I had earplugs to use, they at least got me thru the evening.
