Anthracite for Burning Out a Stump

Anthracite for burning out a stump

PostBy: cArNaGe On: Mon Apr 17, 2017 7:30 pm

I had a big hemlock fall down a couple of months ago. Today I was out cleaning the last of it up. I thought I would try and burn it out with some coal I had outside. It's still burning and seems to be working pretty good. I stuck a pipe in the center and have been using my shopvac to give it combustion air.

Maybe a little? :D
It was more of having some coal outside with pine needles and rocks in it. I don't want to run that through my boiler.
Also the stump was already hollow so it looked a lot like an efm pot.

I wonder how well that is going to work, very interested in finding out.... The one problem I can think of is the ash insulating it.

Cool video! Great idea too! I hope this works. Ive used highly volatile items I wont name and the stumps never seem to completely burn. Ive got 2 huge stumps right now

Stump killer works better IMO, it just needs time to soak through the wood. After a few weeks you can light it and it will burn by itself without any need to force air through it.

i THINK IT WILL WORK GREAT WHEN YOU GET THE STUMP ON TOP OF THE FIRE.... AT THE MOMENT IT APPEARS TO BE UNDER......

That, is a great video! You need to make a longer version and post it on Youtube!

I was think'in of doing something like that but I knew the combustion air would be a problem. Nice to know that a piece of pipe and a shop vac makes an Awesome fire.

So far it has been a failure :stfu:
The wood is still just way to wet. I had already cut it down under the level of the ground. I'm sure it would work if I wanted to wait until the wood dried out. Or if I wanted to put the time into it and the coal.
