Actually the hottest part of the boiler didn't get painted. The heat seems to keep the corrosion to a minimum. I painted the inside and outside of the base completely with por-15. The base still gets plenty hot. This boiler wasn't new by any means. It is one year newer than me. A 1960. :D I repainted with the por-20 because I had another boiler that was being reconditioned and had some left over. The por-15 is still intact and not flaking after six months of use. The unit was sand blasted to bare metal as a prep. :) Scott

Well. I guess it can't hurt to try. I get some por-20 and see what happens. The hardest part will be the prep because right now the inside of my stove is crusted in fly ash.

I have used POR-15 before and it is truely amazing stuff. I have no experience with the hi-temp version but I would assume it lives up to their claims. If you decide to try it, make sure you get the recommended surface-prep products.

A wire brush or grinder fitted with a wirewheel should make short work of the fly ash.

Use code PCAA1208 to get 10% off any POR-15 product. Good through 12/31/08.

My por-15 is holding up well in my stove. There is one area above the grate that the paint has peeled off but so far so good. I would think that the high temp version of POR-15 would work great.
