Close 2nd to Dubya, sam. Now credited with the "de-industrialization of America." Presided over stupendous increases in the national debt by running against the "tax and spend" Democrats, then becoming a "spend and don't tax" Republican. In other words, he decimated the philosophy of fiscal responsibility which had been the cornerstone of the Goldwater conservative movement. Even his own VP, successor and Dubya's old man, Bush 41, called Reagan's "trickle-down" theory "voodoo economics."
He also abandoned the conservative "leave people alone in their private lives" philosophy of Goldwater and forged the Faustian alliance with the truly lunatic religious right. Worst thing the GOP ever did, because getting into people's bedrooms was completely incompatible with basic conservative/libertarian beliefs.
The only aspect of his Presidency which surpassed Dubya's was that he was too busy fighting the cold war with ray-guns and sh!t to start thinking he could invade the Mid-East and kick a$$ over there.
History will not be kind to the Gipper in the end.
