That's one possibility...Here's another & more probable one in my opinion......To hide criminal activity such as price fixing.

You trust Bush/Cheney not to hide everything behind a veil of Nat'l Security like Nixon tried to do? (Surprise.....I don't! )

BTW, If Nat'l. Security is the reason for hiding the details of these meetings then why have they refused to allow Senators (including Republican Senators) with "Top Secret" clearances see the transcripts?.....I think the answer is pretty obvious.

Wrong Mike....The Senate has Constitutionally mandated oversight requirements that they (Congress) have failed to provide in many cases & , when they do try,.......that this administration has ducked, dodged & downright refused to comply with. (Where in the law does a President have the right to tell his Executive Branch employees to disregard lawfully executed Congressional subpoenas ?......Never seen this before in the history of this country!........Not even Nixon was that arrogant!!)

I find it odd that lot's of people vote these two as the worst presidents of all time, yet they are the only two that made it through the white house without strapping us with more debt. I'd prefer a triple dose of Clinton before I take another Bush pill.

I think Carter was/is a very moral & intelligent man & makes a great Ex-President. His main failing, IMO was his lack of decisiveness to face world problems. It never ceases to amaze me how the right wing always blames Carter personally for everything bad that happened during his term (botched military rescue attempt in Iran, economy, etc) but gives GW Bush a pass for the catastrophe that he has brought to this country & the world. (I wonder what GW will do as an Ex-President?....Hopefully he will voluntarily check himself into Leavenworth Prison & make license plates .......Divs on "Coal Devil" )
Then again, maybe he'll just hang out in his Presidential Library (that his oil company buddies will keep stocked with new books.......some of which he hasn't even started coloring yet! :D )

Vice President Dick Cheney threw a verbal insult at West Virginians on Monday, but quickly apologized.

Talking about his family roots and how he's distantly related to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, the vice president noted that he had Cheneys on both sides of his family.

"And we don't even live in West Virginia," Cheney quipped

I think Cheney true colors came out and this is truly the Bush’s administrations real feeling of the American people lets just play them. The American people don’t really count and what is really important is us and our increasing fortune and power. Bush’s administrations attitude to the American people is “Let them eat cake.” -Marie Antoinette Austria, 1768

Carter was a micro-manager who was ultimatley ineffective. Presdents get blamed all the time for the economy, etc when they actually have little if any control over it. I bought my home during the Carter adminsistration and interest rates were in the mid teens. Not his fault. He was I believe and honest man which is hard to come by in politics. He also only "lusted in his heart."

That was nice. wasn't it? They closed right after I picked up the "Gashog".
Many Toyotas are made in the USA now, but a percentage of the profits still go to Japan, some "American" cars are made in Canada or Mexico, where the labor and operating costs are cheaper.

That's OK, Obama as President with Billary as second banana will fix everything for us. I will vote for McCain even though I don't agree with everything he says, but if the Dem team wins the election it will be interesting to see how much of their campaign blathering actually happens. When things go awry they will just blame :x the remaining Republicans in Congress.

So why do so many members here give GW Bush a pass on the horrible state of our current economy? (I just don't get it??)

I forgot one, Bill Clinton (aka "Slick Willy") for numerous reasons, some of which are:

Disgracing the Oval Office with his with Monica stunt.

Lying to the American public about it ("I did not have sex with that woman").

Saying stupid things like "It depends on what your definition of 'is' is".

Bombing an aspirin factory to draw attention away from the focus on his adultery.

Ignoring several terrorist attacks against the United States.

And finally for passing on OBL when the Saudi's offered him to Clinton on a silver platter ("I was this close to capturing OBL").

I'm sure history will not be kind to him.

Sure left a nice legacy.

C'mon, you know any third party candidate doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning! It may make you feel like you are standing up for what you believe in and I think you are doing the right thing, but a vote for Ron Paul may just be a wasted vote.

We probably need to have the liberal Dems or a way too moderate Republican running the country for a while so the experience will steer the R party and the public back to true Republican Conservative values.

To be perfectly honest the whole thing is making me weary.
