The only coal in that part of the country is Bituminous, what type of stove do you have, and what type of coal do you need??

Anthracite would have to be trucked or sent by railcar from Pennsylvania to Iowa... that will make Anthracite pretty expensive.

Need about 4-5 tons of Rice coal for next season, located in "Western MA" in town of Sunderland, 01375. Looking to see if someone knows of another supplier other than the 2 Farmer supplies in this area (one in Amherst, MA the other in Bernardston, MA-same company-2 locations) that might sell Rice coal. Currently these locations are selling at $290 ton last time I checked and they were running out during the burning season. Looking to see if any other suppliers close by that might be cheaper with more abundant supplies. Will be building a Coal bin this summer and hope to take a bulk load that way.

Thanks for the info,

I live in east central Illinois about 25 miles from the Indiana border due west of Terre Haute. I have heated with wood for about 35 years with inside stoves, indoor wood coal boiler and outdoor wood boiler. I would like to go with coal as I'm tired of cutting 10 to 12 cord of wood per year. I have been unable to find any local coal suppliers as of yet. Checked phone book and asked everywhere I could think of. There used to be some local mines but are all shut down. I know all mines do not sell to the public. what I need is a source if anyone knows I would like info . Has anyone compiled a list of dealers?

The only type of coal you're going to find in Illinois that is local is bituminous, if you want anthracite it will need to be shipped in.

I am well aware what kind of coal is available in Illinois. Anthracite is shipped within 50 miles of home but with current fuel prices makes it cost prohibitive. This is the reason I am looking for a mine within driving distance. I don't care what kind as long as it burns. Just thought maybe some reader of this forum in IL or In might know. Thanks

There's another thread in the bituminous forum for dealers , try that one: Where Do You Get Your Bituminous Coal and a Going Price?

I would HIGHLY recommend going to Superior, Calvin Lennigs. Summit, and there are a few others.. PM member 'coal berner' He can recommend some good breakers open on Saturday..

Just to give you an idea.. 'coal berner' lives only a few miles from the S.Tomaqua breaker,, but he drives 26 or so miles to buy Superior coal. IT's that much better.

You would be better of Going to UAE Harmony mine on Route 61 Centralia Mount carmel Highway they are open until 12pm
Take I -81S to Exit 124 Frackville go to the second or third Red light make a left on 61 go to Ashland when you get to Asland make a left and go to the top of the hill make a right follow until you come to the stop sign make a left you are on the Highway go about 3 to 4 miles to the Jug handel when you are at the stop sign UAE will be in front of you there will be a white trailer with 4 coal bins on the right the scale will be on the other side of trailer get on it pull up to the window and tell them what you want then go to the bins they will load you with a bobcat loader 130.00 a ton

If you want to go to Superior coal Then goto Exit 116 on I-81S take Route 25 to Hegins go threw Higins & Vally Veiw you
will see Vally Veiw School on your left go past it about 4 miles you will see a Road that splits on your left take it You should be on Schwenkin Road take a left go a 1/2 mile you will see the breaker on your left and the scale on you right they are open until 12pm 140.00 a ton Good Luck If I had some time I would take you to them but I have to many things going on Sorry :)

Looking for bulk coal supplier at zip 12996..
(Lake Champlain Plattsburg NY area)

If my son and I can find one, we both are converting to coal.

Heated with corn prior to moving.. However no source here and the prices have soared.

Lake Champlain Coal Company in Whitehall NY or Rockhill Coal Co. in Malone. If you want to buy a large (24 ton) load you could have one brought up from PA.
