I will be purchasing a stoker shortly because of the price of liquid fuels - I am looking for input form those of you who have stokers already. There is a dealer near me that has Alaska Stokers. Is this the best or are there better ones out there? I always try to buy locally because of service (ALBANY, NY)
I am also interested in responses about how the stoker will attach to my current furnance or if I would just run an additional duct to the main duct. AND is it necessary to add a humidifier to the process. AND can I vent the stoker thru my current chiminey or do I need a power vent?

HI Martin, welcome to the forum.
There are many types of stokers.. stoker stoves, stoker boilers, stoker furnaces etc... Alaska makes stoker stoves and stoker furnaces.. The furnaces can and should be hooked into your current ductwork if you want to distribute the heat evenly. A stoker stove usually is a suplemental heater, in a room and has no attach-points for ductwork.
Coal heat is just like all other heat in the wintertime.. a humidifier is a good idea.
Describe what you have for a chimney, what is hooked to it now, or if you have an additional chimney available,,
But most important,, take a day or two and read the topics on this forum,, your questions are answered here with the many other members doing the same instalations..
