Fall 2008 Meet and Greet (AKA Coal Nerd Fest)

Re: Fall 2008 Meet and Greet (AKA Coal Nerd Fest)

1. day and time of arrival and planned departure date and time
2. Camping or Motel or day trip only
3. Interest in Yuengling tour, mine tour, other?
4. Getting coal?
5. Number of adults and children in party
6. any other info you can think of that is needed LOL

1. I'll Arrive and depart same day
2. I'm up for camping if the weather cooperates.
3. I have no interest in beer tour, BTDT x2. Mine tour? BTDT many x too.
4. Not getting coal
5. me, myself & I.
6. I'd suggest keeping this event simple. Maybe run out & load coal with the guys, have late lunch and a few beers among friends. Flagstaff resturant would be a real nice place to hang out, resturant & bar with great view of Jim Thorpe on top of mountain. Or we could go to Penns Peak but there is a concert ( Kansas ) at 8p. I'm sure the resturant & bar will be open. Great view! Penns Peak is between Jim Thorpe & Lehighton, PA

I'll offer camping & a fire in a barrel in my yard, on the rear deck for anyone who may need or want to spend a night. Bathroom open. Trees okay to, lots privacy. If it rains I can offer a floor. I live east of Jim Thorpe

1. Probably stop in to say Hi at the #9
2. Live too close to give up a familiar bed
3. been there done that
4.got it
5. 2 adults, 2 children depending on activities planned. Probably just me if it is just guys having a beer
6. Late October is unpredictable for an outside picinic could be Indian Summer or 40*F. Nice Irish Pub in Lansford "Kelly's Irish Pub" 570-645-2000. Also "The Palace" is a converted movie theatre that is now an eatery and bar 570-645-5677. Both places are right on RT. 209 easy to find. Palace is in middle of Lansford at second traffic light, Kellys is at the end of town . There are other places to go around here for grub and adult beverages but these two have the capacity for a large group. In Coaldale there is Costello's 570-645-2444 (they may require notice and reservations for a large group) Walking distance from the #9 is the Sports Zoo bar 570-645-2935 Beer and bar food. I would call in advance so they know to expect a large crowd in the afternoon because they usually do most of their business with the night time crowd but they have room for a large crowd.

Just some suggestions, If I wasn't bogged down right now I would help you guys plan this get together. However if you need more ideas drop me a PM. I'm sure Mike from the #9 could give you the same info too.

I'm in Coaldale. Sisters is good too. I just rattled off a few local places and forgot about Tamaqua. They also have the Railroad Station over there with good food but the seating is limited. You can't beat the atmosphere if anyone is a train buff. Tamaqua also has the "Golden Spike" another cool train theme place. I could make a list of places to eat and Bed and Breakfast type places if you guys are interested. I'll try to comment on what I personally think are good bets but I'm no Zagat's Guide to the Coal Region. I also didn't mention any places in Jim Thorpe or Lehighton because they get enough tourist dollars already. Just kidding I'll do some research if you need it but don't really want responsiblities this year maybe next year if things are settled here I can be more involved.

Yeah sorry if I phrased it like you didn't know the area. I was thinking about the guys/girls from out of the area who might read this thread for ideas. I'm getting ready for work now but I'll put together a list soon.

It will be a day trip for me...so sleeping arrangements will not be required ;)
As far as visiting places I'm game for whatever
Don't believe I will be getting coal
If it's just going to be a guys thing then it will be just me...if some folks think they might bring along some young kids then I may bring my 4 year old boy along.

So what's the plans here? I'm in as long as there is beer involved somewhere along the line. Camping? Works for me but its not cold enough yet. :D
