Taco 007

I See there are two types of the taco 007. One being the f-5,other bf-5 bronze.can anyone tell me the advantages one over the other.

The bronze body pump is intended for use with fresh water, that is, water that has oxygen in it..fresh from a well or municipal water system. The standard cast iron body pump may corrode when pumping oxygen rich water..like in a DHW system.

However.. as cheap as an iron 007 pump is, and how expensive a Bronze pump is.. i have always opted for the cast iron pump, they are $74.95 NEW at my local lumber yard, and can be bought on ebay for around $50.. The bronze pumps are about $200 pluss.. I have used the cast pumps in oxygen rich water for many many years.. and have only once had a pump grow enough rust scale to cause a problem,, and I fixed the problem in about 15-20 minutes... if you put shut off valves on each side of the pump, repairs or replacement takes only minutes..

So, depending on your application, and whether you want to spend the extra cash, you may want to go with a bronze body or the cast iron..

Is 007 the most common size? Hopefully I will be installing a new coal boiler in my house (2000 sq ft 3 zones) by the end of summer and would like to start gathering my supplies now. I see pexsupply has them on sale for $57. Is it worth getting it with the internal flow check valve? I didn't think it would be since I will have flow valves on my supply side.

Selecting an appropriate circulator is just not about picking a common size. It's about matching the pumps flow capability (gal/hr) to the resistance of your distribution piping (feet of head). See: http://www.taco-hvac.com/en/products/We ... d_id=16347
for the various Taco choices. Other brands will have similar selections. Post more about your heat distribution system. Baseboard, radiators, zone valves, individual circulators per zone, etc. I prefer piping designs with individual flow valves. The combination units are time savers for plumbers, but are more expensive to buy. Both designs will work.

Well I have 3 zones each with its own circulator on the return side. My radiators are cast iron but not the tall large ones. Plumbed in series. They look more like the newer style. Most of the piping appears to be 1 inch black pipe but could be 1 1/2.

Oh yeah the house is 2000sq ft ranch.

For not much more, multiple speed pumps, Taco or Grundflos can be purchased, which would allow better tailoring to the load. I just paid $59 for grunfloses. Three speeds. Scott

I like the Grundfos pumps much better. Built in shut off valves, multi speed.

What model grundfos is that? I did see they had a 3 speed model.
