A coal convert in work informed me today that his dealer said Harman stoves (he wants a Mark III) with cash deposits at this date will be delivered in the beginning of January. Also a reliable source from a pretty large central CT supplier (~ 3 acre yard) indicated Blashak as of a week or so ago will not commit to a delivery date though call back in ~2 weeks. For your consideration...

Last I knew Blashak only sells to dealers. If you call asking for coal they kick you to your nearest dealer.

Permit me to clarify, I'm not talking to Blashak directly, my Central CT supplier is. This supplier had several (and I mean several!) hundred tons on his site 5-6 weeks ago so I'm pretty much assuming he may be called a dealer to Blashak.

You sound like a lot of folks considering coal. I realized last year I wasn't going to be able to afford oil heat much longer. That was at 2.40 a gallon. I started looking early this spring. I got real lucky and purchased a refurbed EFM. The wife was a little hestitant at first until I showed her the projected cost of oil vs coal. Then it was a no brainer. If we didn't find that unit I'd be burning my molding in a barrel in our living room this winter.

Ahhhhh, I see. I guess it's possible that there might be a temporary tight supply now & then. I have a buddy that's a trucking dispatcher. He said that every week five tractor trialer trucks of wood pellets comes from Virgina to my town each week & delivers to Sams Club. He said every time the truck gets to the store, they are out of pellets. That's right now!! People are stocking up, people are scared. I do believe there is pleny of coal, but you might run into a delivery issue now & then.

Other than the coal, some guys in work are looking at solar and geothermal, They plug 5-6 wells each 100' deep, closed loop, into your backyard, heat pump goes in, ~ 60K cost, CT gives a 50% rebate so your cost is 30K though I bet more all that is more than the 60K base price . Guess that does not include the new grass. payback will be ~ 6 years or so against oil. Me, coal fur now though I'm thinking that rice coal will be more plentiful cause beginners like me do nut, pea first. I guess the key is to do the alternate what the masses, the wood pellet lemmings,do. Interesting how our country is changing, the survivors come out and make their mark. Time for a beer...

Well Freddy I don't think it's a delivery issue. Reports like this would pop up around late summer late fall the last two years. First time was probably after Katrina. One thing to note is that Harman is the only one I've seen mentioned yet and this is the second posting where January was stated?

May just be problems at the factory too since they just switched ownership but that is speculation on my part.

Maybe you need to travel to western NY. I can go buy any model Keystoker, Harman, or Leisure Line right now and load it on my truck... Call around you can get one, most dealers have them in stock there is no shortage. Or even better call EFM in Emmaus, PA and get a permanent solution - a new stoker boiler :)

Good point e.alleg, may be same dealer in both posts and he simply sold out his stock already and can't get any until that time.

Uglysquiiril, the sad thing is, just a few years back, if someone invested thirty grand into geothermal, they were looking at a 25 year payback! Now it's a 6 year? Crazy. I have a friend that was allllll set to do geothemal. He's a well driller so it should be cheaper for him. The one thing that stopped him: He happend in a geo-house last winter to do some work. It was nice & comfy upstairs, but when he went to the cellar, it was freezing! His hobby is in the cellar and he realized he'd have to have a much larger system than was planned to heat the cellar too. Coal? Free warm cellar! He's not much a computer guy but has popped in here to extract information. He ordered an AHS this week, looking at Oct. delivery.

My neighbors are giving me looks....what's under that green tarp in the driveway?...whats in those white bags he taking from his car? Hey, the world is changing. Fred, by the way, nice dog you have there. When we retire, my wife and I want to own a herd of dauchunds. Sorry fur the non-coal related stuff....:>

Hijacked thread! Back off or we'll release the hounds!

WOOF!
These belong to a friend of mine in CA.

Our dog is an Austrialian Shepherd. By far, the smartest dog we've ever had. If she noses her way into the bathroom while you're in there, tell her to shut the door & she will. The only dog I've ever had that will unwrap her leash from a tree on comand. She not only knows all her toys by name, she knows her blue frisbee from her red frisbee and her old red frisbee from her new red frisbee. Now if I can train her to take out the ashes.

A dog will brake your hart in the end, unless you are an old man, and die before it.
