Large anthracite boiler/stoker manufacturers?

Large anthracite boiler/stoker manufacturers?

PostBy: Nautilus On: Mon Jun 16, 2008 11:10 am

I'm having trouble finding a manufacturer of large boiler/stokers for anthracite coal. It's for a commercial application, 1,800,000 BTU rough size. Any idea's?

Keystoker has them listed as up to 1 million BTU. Have you tried contacting them directly? Be aware they don't have ASME stamp. It was mentioned in a previous post someone had placed one of their boilers in a pizza place and the inspector wouldn't sign off on it. If it were me I'd be looking into multiple boilers for redundancy. e.g 4X500,000 BTU units. If one goes offline the others will be able to pick up the slack.

I don't know if these burn anthracite, give them a call, they may be able to steer you in the right direction.

AHS and Axeman Anderson make big boilers.. and you can run them in multiples,, that way you can shut one down and not loose all the heat while you service one unit.. And.. instaling say three 500K units would be easier than the job of moving and installing a 1.5 M btu unit.. at least in my mind it would be easier..

You can also run multiple efm units and they are coded for commercial application.

If you have the boiler I have a 1,000,000 BTU stoker to put under it. It may fire to you needs with better coal. :?:

Running multiple boilers in a coal/steam application isn't so easy considering the space we have to work with. It currently has a 2 million BTU oil boiler that needs replacing before this winter. HB Smith makes a boiler, but we need a stoker and so far all we have come up with in the size range we're looking for is for Bituminous coal only. Problem is the only way of supplying Bituminous coal is to buy direct from PA in 24 ton loads. Buying in bulk isn't the problem, getting a 70' trailer in there is though.

Axman-Andersons biggest is 1,000,000 BTU's which might be possible to run two in tandem, but I'm going to have to do a little more figuring.

We've got an easy supply of anthracite and I've found a boiler/stoker that fits the application but it's for bituminous only. Maybe I need to stick with the Bituminous boiler/stoker and look for another supply of Bituminous.

Ah,, STEAM, not mentioned before..

Personally since I've burnt both Bituminous and Anthracite,, and you mention that you have a good supply of anthracite,, I'd stay away from the Bituminous.. There is more work, more cleaning, more smoke and smell... with Bituminous.. HOWEVER, Bituminous is about 1/3 the cost of Anthracite..

Stoker man he would have hook up 8 EFM 520 to make 1.8 millon BTU's or 5 EFM 900 or 3 EFM 1300 Plus 1 520 If you could even find any 1300 or even 900 close to two millon btu's is a lot of heat output the older losch boiler co. made big units
that would putout 1 to 3 millon btu's but most of them are long gone They are several still in service at the bigger coal breaker's around my area Spencer boiler co. is another one that also made big boilers aswell as a few other co. most
of them are long out of business Once in a while you will find one but not to offten

Burning a 1 1/2 tons of coal a day like it will, that would be some serious coin.

You would almost have to hire someone to do 'Clinker Duty' burning that much each day.. Hire a fireman. A ton and a half of the WV Maryland Bituminous coal I burnt would have about two wheelbarrow's full of clinker and ash... and this much per day?? wow... a full time job.

With anthracite,, just load the hoppers and empty the ashpans,, once a day,, depending on the setup and equipment available,, maybe an hour's work.?
