What's the price for 1 ton of coal in your area? 2008-09

A little late but time to start new thread for cost for the upcoming season. If you have already indicated the cost in the previous thread feel free to do it here. It's just too complicated for a simple poll but its the best I can do for now.

The prices for the 2007-2008 season can be found here: about1739.html

Local dealer is $225/ton bulk delivered or $240/ton bagged. Calling around got me basically the same prices in my area. Still way cheaper than propane or oil and easier and more automatic than wood.
Burning coal is definitely worth the extra work involved.

Agway has it for about $350 a ton. I found a local bulk dealer that has it for $280 a ton delivered for 1 to 5 tons. I plan to get 2 tons of bulk and store it in 55 gal. drums. I also was able to find some that has been in an old coal bin for over 40 years. The price of that 1 1/2 to 2 tons is a donation to the residents of the group home that is there now, and removal of the coal. I have a trailor that can haul at least a ton, so I`m set for the winter!!! :D

i called the guy that i got it from last year. last fall he told me $740 plus tax on 3.6 tons baged on the phone. after he dumped it in my yard he gave me a bill for $840 plus tax , lol. well needless to say i was short $100 and told him to stop buy in a month or so to get the $100. i told him thats a bad way to do things and he agreed after a half hour of convincing him. so when i called , he never mentioned the $100. told me $310 ton bagged and $225 ton bulk , need 4 ton's to go from oct 1 to april 30. , hopefully. :D said he has blaskcalk. so now i have to build a bin in the basement. when it's done i'll post some pic's.
i only wanted to have some fun !!!! you cannot direct the wind , but you can adjust your sails.

$200/ ton with a $25 delivery fee. Had 5+ ton delivered last week. It should last about 3 years.

I live on Long Island. $305 per ton plus delivery is the going rate for us here. I'm going to see how big a bin I can buil din my basement-- maybe the more I buy, the cheaper it will be! (though I don;t think it will be that big a difference between 2 tons and 4 tons.) :)

I'm going to have to say I'm very skeptical of that price. I was charging that for your area 3 years ago and I'm probably 1/3 the distance. ;) See your PM.

Recently priced stove coal in York, PA and it runs $200/ton and $60 for delivery. Ouch! I used to buy stoker coal in 1974 for $32/ton. It was half that at the mine.

That is absolutely true. In 1974 Coal was that cheap and no one wanted Coal and there was not enough profit for the Coal Miners and Coal Breakers to stay in business... That is why when I grew in the late 60s and early 70s there were 12 Coal breakers within 10 miles of my parents house and Now there is one small breaker!
