# I am sure it has been asked a 1,000 times Dimensions for bin

### I am sure it has been asked a 1,000 times Dimensions for bin

Hi, i was wondering what dimensions you would need per ton of coal, I am thinking of building a bin to hold between 3 to 6 ton of coal. Thanks

A ton of coal takes up about 40 cubic feet. A 4 by 4 by 8' bin would hold 3.2 ton. (4 times 4 time 8= 128, divided by 40= 3.2)

4 x 8 x 2 = 64 Cubic FT Approx. 1.6 tons
4 x 8 x 3 = 96 Cubic FT Approx. 2.4 tons
4 x 8 x 4 = 128 Cubic FT Approx. 3.2 tons
4 x 8 x 5 = 160 Cubic FT Approx. 4 tons
4 x 8 x 6 = 192 Cubic FT Approx. 4.8 tons
5 x 8 x 2 = 80 Cubic FT Approx. 2 tons
5 x 8 x 3 = 120 Cubic FT Approx. 3 tons
5 x 8 x 4 = 160 Cubic FT Approx. 4 tons
5 x 8 x 5 = 200 Cubic FT Approx. 5 tons
5 x 8 x 6 = 240 Cubic FT Approx. 6 tons
4 x 10 x 2 = 80 Cubic FT Approx. 2 tons
4 x 10 x 3 = 120 Cubic FT Approx. 3 tons
4 x 10 x 4 = 160 Cubic FT Approx. 4 tons
4 x 10 x 5 = 200 Cubic FT Approx. 5 tons

The last number is the height? if it is could I make it a little wider and a little shorter so it would fit better in the spot I want to put it? say 1 ft shorter and 1 ft wider? thanks
