Coal stove in a mobile home??

Coal stove in a mobile home??

PostBy: 1jonnyz On: Sat Jun 28, 2008 10:12 am

I am just wondering if there are coal stoves that are OK to use in a mobile home? I live 30 miles northwest of Philly and am looking to get coal for heat. My tin can is 14'x70' (about 1000 sq. ft.). I know it will be a job to get heat back to the bedrooms but it's better than paying $5.00 a gallon for oil, I would need a new furnace anyway as mine is shot. Any thoughts or advice will be greatly appreciated!!

Lesisure Line states there's are suitable for mobile homes. Not sure about the others. The econo 1 will probably roast you out of the trailer. ;)

Also for use in mobile homes.
Model: Econo I, Econo Sidewinder, Hearth, Pioneer LE TV or BV, Pocono TV or BV, Hyfire I and Hyfire II

I don't believe the econo or any other coal stove will roast you out. Coal stoker stoves will idle along giving off minimal heat. If Jon is looking for an alternative heating method coal would be a good choice because it will idle down very low compared to a pellet stove or wood burner. Leisure Line says that their stoves will idle down to 5000 btu's input and with an 80% efficiency you should see 4000 btu's from the stove. With good coal and a good chimney that idle can be cut down a little more. And as Richard said Leisure Line stoves are mobile home approved.

I was thinking about helping my wifes cousin get something in his mobile home. But I believe he's to stupid and would kill him and his girlfriend. But I feel sorry for him when he stops by my house because he's cold.

When placing a stoker in a mobile home, it's hard to get the heat back to the bedrooms without roasting you out of the living room. It's still better then oil.

If you run the furnace fan only and allow the heat to be pulled into the return air grill, it will distribute the warmth nicely. As already stated the LL Econo would be perfect. The key there is to have the Coal-Trol so that the room temp can be controlled within 1 degree no matter what the conditions. I expect that the stove location would be 73* F or so for a 68 * temp in the bed rooms which would make for comfortable sleeping. The only issue might be the bath room if you like that to be warmer.

Assuming it's a trailer park, it would be an ideal application for what the Europeans call district heating. An outside coal fired boiler with hot water piped to several mobile homes with water to air heat exchangers in the furnace ductwork. Puts the fire out of the living space and works with the existing heating equipment.
