The tarp I bought was 20'X40' and it took up almost the whole tarp, for 23 tons.

Would a 10' by 25' tarp for $16.66 seem cheap? Math is so cruel. You could get six 10 by 25's from the 30 by 50 and that makes them $16.66.

I paid $29 for a 18 by 24'. That covers over my 24 ton, but I have the coal in a 16' by 18' bin with 4 foot walls. I'm goig to make a better quality tarp for the cover. The blue ones barely last a year in the sun.

99.96 for 6 or 100 for 1 30x50 had to get out the calculalator. Iam putting mine under the pile, I hope it will last if the sun cant get to it. I have seen you coal bin, NICE! I cant get a dump trailer in my yard so I am forced to store it down the road at my friends old farm house. I plan on bagging 2-3 ton (free bags at work) and a 16 year old son that cant wait to start bagging (Yea right).I also plan on building about a 2 ton bin. I think I will burn less than 4 ton if the one ton = 180 gals of oil thing is right. One of the truckers I called about del. said keep the sun off it and before I take my years supply from the pile to wet it down and mix it up. He said he did not know why but the water activates it. Maybe just a story so they can justify getting paid for wet coal by the ton. But he sounded honest. He also said to put a mesh tarp over the pile just to keep the sun off it, and let the pile get wet. I don't know but I would hate to be out there in Feb with a jack hammer.

I'm sure the tarp will be fine under the pile. The edges in the sun will give way... the auto shrinking coal holder!
I cover it to keep the cats out of it. I don't think covered, uncovered, next to a cover, having a cover as neighbor makes much of a difference. If you're storing it less than a few hundred years I'll think it'll be fine. For sure if you're going to be using coal from the pile during the winter you'll want to keep it covered so it doesn't clump/freeze.
