How to replace the spring handles?

How to replace the spring handles?

PostBy: captcaper On: Sun Jun 29, 2008 6:42 pm

I just picked up a stove and I'd like to change the spring handles. They're on a 3/8" rod. Can I heat them up and twist them off?

It's an old Chubby that is in good shape.

If it is like the handle on my Hitzer, twist the spring by hand in the direction that makes the spring expand. Watch closely as you turn, and you will see the handle diameter expand slightly as the spring tries to unwind. It may loosen up enough to pull off as you twist.

Put on a pair of the rubber-dipped gloves for added grip and 'traction' on the handles.. then, as described above rotate and pull the spring off the round steel bar.
