Axeman Anderson Increased Prices 7% Today

PostBy: Matthaus On: Tue Jul 01, 2008 10:27 am

I just received a call from the fine folks at AA today, as has been going on in the industry they are raising their prices to follow increased expenses (steel, energy, etc.). Also their lead times are increasing as the season draws near, so if you are looking to purchase a new unit, the time is now! :D

That is interesting as that is exactly the same increase that Harman announced to the dealers.

I know the wholesale price of steel pipe went from $2400 a ton to $3200 July 1st due to an increase in the price of steel. That might be one reason.

Commodity prices have gone sky high. I haven't done any work on my house in years. I started looking at stuff to do the EFM install. Inch and a half copper pipe 10' length 89.00, a roll of 12-2 romex 70.00  I almost fell over. The last time I bought a roll of wire it was 20.00.
It seems like everything from food, energy, repair parts, property taxes etc etc etc are doubling. The only thing not going up is people's income. I'm usually not the doom and gloom type but I think we're headed for some pretty tough times.

Hi billw,, you would have fallen through the floor checking on the prices for wood products a few years ago.. These prices have dropped drasticly with the downturn in new home construction. Now is a good time for buying wood products..

About a year ago I went to my local lumber yard, who is pretty competitive with the Home Depot and Lowes stores.. and inquired on the price of a 250' roll of 14-2/wg wire [romex]. When he said $55 I replied, no, not 12-3/wg, I want 14-2/wg... he laughed and showed me the price list...my jaw dropped..
Copper and steel are skyrocketing in price, just like oil.. it is supply and demand... the supply is finite and limited, and the demand is strong.. China and India are building and modernizing at a phenominal rate,, and,,, worse their population is growing at a mind boggling rate... We have a very scary future in the grand scheme of the world market..

And there is a large use of copper (brass) in bullet casings. During the Vietnam War era copper prices spiked also. Lead to the ill fated aluminum in house wiring as a substitute for copper wire.

You can thank your government. Lower interest rates was a way to keep the stock market from crashing but unfortunately it caused inflation by adding liquidity to our monetary supply.

A little off subject, but on the price increase line of thought. I do upholstery work for a living along with making signs. The price of foam rubber historically has gone up each year. It's made from oil and chemicals and they are forever whining about the cost of ingrediants. Three months ago I got a letter from my supplier saying the price was going up by 32% two weeks from then. The letter was hand signed by the owner. Under his signature was a post it note that said "Before I could mail this letter to you I got a notice from the manufacturer that the increase will be 55% instead of 32. Here it is three months later. I got a notice last week that foam is going up on July 15th by 50%!
On top of that a year ago it cost $9 to ship one sheet of foam, now UPS goes by volume as well as weight and it's close to $30 for shipping. Bottom line: The foam to do one chair seat a year ago was about $20, now it's about $75.

then the customers call you a rip-off for charging triple what their brother-in-law paid a few years ago.
