Hello there,
Another Mainer, just purchased our Pioneer BV Saturday at the local heat fair. According to our salesman, it wont be in until November! Yikes, but at least I have some time - what / how / where should I get the "noncombustible pad" to place our stove on? My dad made his own with concrete and tile - is that acceptable for a coal stove? I plan on getting the CO detectors as we have two (almost three, due in Oct) children, but what about a fence to go around the stove so little hands don't get burnt? Thanks for the help, I am excited to use my new stove, should it ever get here

Congrats on your new stove.........You'll be saving allot of $$$ & be more comfortable this winter to boot!
Never a bad idea to put up a blockade to keep the young ones safe. (I have a temporary gate we set up when our 2 year old granddaughter comes over)
Probably the most important thing to do b4 your stove comes, is get some quality coal to burn in it. Not all coal is the same & you can make you winter miserable with inferior coal. Whether you have a bin (for bulk coal) or are going to be using bagged coal, read a few threads here & buy good coal.

Another Mainah! Welcome!

The stove should be protected from Kids under 3. Kids over three only get burned once! OK, OK, yaaaa, the older kids might fall onto it, but they'll only touch it once!
