EFM-520 build thread

Did you put a gasket around the Auger tube coming out of the base can't tell from the pic also how long is the Auger
tube & Augers are you using a barrel or coal bin if you are using a barrel put some gasket around that end of the tube
going into the barrel a auger tube coupling would make it easies to remove the auger & tube if you would have to work
on it or have to remove soming stuck in it That looks like a long run for no coupling

Coal berner, I wrapped the coal pipe twice with 5/8 round gasket. On the barrel end I used a hole saw 2 3/8 ,so it fits tight. The total length or coal pipe is 69". Its one piece and the auger is 2 piece. I thought since I am using a barrel I could easily slide the barrel out of the way and clean ?out the pipe. I hope I am not going to regret this . Any other thoughts ? Please keep them comming as I am completly new to this and need all of the advice I can get. Thanks for all the great imfo so far.

Looks heavy. How did you get the boiler on top of the base? Was the chainfall attached to the ceiling joist?

I hear 800 lbs. If you look back a page you can see the chain fall hung from a steel beam. No you cant see the beam, but its there, trust me.

Kevin you can always get a coupler later 69" is not that long being you are using a drum but with a coupler on the Auger
tube it makes it even easier to remove the augers & tubes you can cut the tube where the two augers meet and slip in
the coulper you will have to unscrew the augers and pull them apart along with the Auger drum tube with the coulper
on you can just pull the drum ager & tube off and then the pot auger & tube instead of having to pull the whole tube
and two augers off together it will be kind of tuff trying to screw the two agers together with one whole tube on it
if you ever have to take it apart EFM as a two piece split Tube coulper that makes it even easier to put on and off
Somthing to think about

Only project left is to wire the motor and controls. I have an electrician friend comming down sunday. I hot wired the motor to hear it run, sweet . Everything looks like great. New gear oil in gear box and tub. oiled holes in their locations too. Hope to be burning coal by sunday.

SUCCESS. . Fired up with kindleing wraped in news paper, then put a scoop of coal on top when wood was burning good. Took about 20 minutes to get to 160 degrees. Verified my l6006 was working on the way up. Also verified the high limit would shut down the stoker. The timer works as well. Everything is operational. Fire looks even and setting is close for now, #4 and #4 on air. Will check ash ring tommorow when I have one to look at. Nice blue flame about 6" tall. Im very pleased with experiance. So far everybody that came down to see my unit has been amazed . they just did not think coal is a real alternative to oil or wood heat. Plus the unit is amazing by itself. By the way, I used #2 ash buckets (square). Just bent the corners over to make one side 18". Fits like a glove and looks like It was made that way.
