Will the real Barack Obama please step forward

PostBy: Richard S. On: Tue Jul 08, 2008 1:08 pm

In recent weeks, Obama said he supports gun-ownership rights, backs legislation giving immunity to telephone companies that participated in an anti-terrorism surveillance program and would consider cutting corporate taxes. On July 3, he said he would ``continue to refine my policies'' on the Iraq War.

Obama built his candidacy on the support of his party's liberal base, which favors restrictions on guns and wiretapping, raising taxes for companies, and pulling U.S. forces from Iraq. As an Illinois state legislator, he voted against a law carving out self-defense exceptions to local handgun bans; as a U.S. senator, he opposed business tax cuts and extending warrantless eavesdropping, and backed tougher gun laws. On Iraq, he has long focused on ending the war and withdrawing troops.

Politics 101:

Just as Sen. McCain is tacking towards the middle to gain votes, so must Sen. Obama. If he had said that no matter what the conditions on the ground were in Iraq that he would guarantee troop withdrawal within 16 months....The Republicans/Neocons would have been screaming that he wasn't going to talk to our commanders & take the situation there into account in his decision making. Thus....The Neo-cons are trying to paint Obama into a "lose/lose" box no matter what he says.....But..... it's not working this time!. Bottom line is he knows this country is tired of the war & we can't afford the expense of it anymore & will pull our troops out as soon as "Appearances" make it reasonable to do so....He wants to pull them out. Conversely, McCain has bought into the GW Bush BS &, like Bush will use any excuse he can to continue keeping our troops there for who knows how long. We all "know" these truths, just as we "Know" that McCain is the real flip/flopper on any number of matters, not Obama.
The John McCain of 2000 wouldn't even recognize the 2008 version!

Barack Obama has been consistent with his policies. If you would take the time to read his books and go to his website, you would know that.

John McCain on the other hand reverses his positions so many times no one can tell which way he faces.
For a current list of his "Flip_Flops" follow this link. If you don't, than don't complain about what you don't know

Remember Devil,, you can't believe ANYTHING you read on the web,, it's all a conspiracy, it's all been modified from the original and it's all slanted. so any links to anything negative about McCain are just as much lies as the ones being negative about Obama..

They're both lying POS politicians that aren't worth the powder to blow them to hell. That's the nice thing about being non-partisan, I get to hate all of the politicians. :)

Sorry Greg,

You can fact check all of McCain's flip/flops...They are quite real.
Does anyone here really believe that McCain's policies would be much different from the GW Bush policies?

That list is questionable at best, I'm not going to check the whole thing but for one example it claims he didn't support the G.I. bill which is true but it fails to mention that he didn't support it as it was written.

The article says:

McCain was against expanding the GI Bill before he was for it.

At face value that may be true but in reality he did support a G.I. bill just not the one that was passed.

This scenario happens all the time to politicians from both parties. A lot of bills come up for vote with a wide variety of contents, someone could vote against a bill for one particular reason, and be criticized for not supporting something else in the bill.

That said, I really have no idea who I am going to vote for in this coming presidential election. I feel that there is a lot of the same old *censored* on each side and plenty of talk about change with no realistic plan to do anything.

Sen. McCain, faced with the "election year" appearance of not supporting our troops, did vote in favor of a much watered down bill (less GI benefits) to save face.
I think this year provides the clearest choice we voters have had in many years: More of the same, from a candidate who admits to knowing little about the economy, has voted over 90% in favor of GW Bush's policies or a complete break from the Bush ...."I Have A Rich Daddy Whose Gonna Get Me Into Yale" view of the economy & world.
I don't know about you but I'm tired of the old Republican mantra that says "Yes, things are bad....but they could be worse!".....& then we wake up to find that they are, in fact, worse .........the next day!
Or.......They are banking on the old fear (which I have a personal stake in :D ) that says"
"Better The Devil You Know Than The One You Don't Know".

...Enough I say......... Time to get some guts America & take a chance on Obama!
