I'd agree to some point but if this spying saves the lives of thousands or millions then what? It's really a tough question as to what is enough government intrusion in our lives. It's not something thats unprecedented, just look at the crap Herbert Hoover pulled thats just coming to light in the last few decades. As I said i doubt this is the first time things like this have happened and it certainly won't be the last.
If you really want to be concerned about intrusion on your privacy look to companies like Google, they by far have more information than anyone on the planet. The logs for the youtube case you mentioned in the other thread amount to something like 10 terabytes... considering its just plain text and probably compressed that's an enormous amount of information. to put it into perspective the database for this site is about 15MB's compressed and that includes a few MB's of PM's. 10TB's is enough room to store more than 650,000 copies of the text in this forum.
Now if I deleted all the Exxon remarks by Devil it would be enough for 650,001.
