Federal Judge Ruling: George W. Bush is a Felon

Chief Judge Vaughn Walker of the US District Court in California has ruled that President George W. Bush is a felon. The ruling stems from the case of Al-Harmain Islamic Foundation Inc. v Bush, a case which will now be remembered as making it official that Bush's program of 'warrantless spying' is illegal.

Judge Walker held that the president lacks the authority to disregard the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, or FISA -- which means Bush's warrantless electronic surveillance program was illegal. Whether Bush will ultimately be held accountable for violating federal law with the program remains unclear. Bush administration lawyers have fought vigorously -- at times using brazen, logic-defying tactics -- to prevent that from happening. The court battle will continue to play out as Congress continues to battle over recasting FISA and possibly granting immunity to telecom companies involved in the illegal surveillance.

To be a felon you'd have to be tried and convicted? Yes, No?

It's debatable as to whether even the president can be indicted for actions taken by him serving as an official and would open up a can of worms. Having said that if every President that committed a felony while exercising official powers while in office to protect this country was indicted and prosecuted we'd have a very long list.

I'm "siding" with the US Constitution. Whine, stomp your feet & cry all you want, your rich boy hero has been deemed to be a common felon by a duly appointed federal judge for the first time in the long history of this country. (If I was the judge, I would send a couple of armed court officers over to the White House & arrest GW Bush's sorry, felonious butt......Love to see the "Perp Walk" on the Fox evening news with Bush hiding his face under a jacket while he is led out, cuffed)

You have a pretty low opinion of our Presidents then. We generally elect men who become felons? (other than Nixon, I can't think of one)

Actually I have quite a high opinion of our Presidents which is one reason I'd personally feel they should have leeway in matters like this. First of all I think we need to separate official acts from criminal acts. Eavesdropping on a group of people associated with terrorist organizations for national security reasons isn't something that would be comparable to abusing the power for you're own financial gain. Certainly if they had followed the FISA act they would have been granted permission for the eavesdropping anyway, from my understanding a presidential request for wiretapping is just a technical speed bump and these requests are never denied. Arguably in lot of these cases time is of the essence, would you really want a lawyer arguing in front of judge while in the meantime a catastrophe could be adverted?

The chances that any President hasn't committed similar acts with national security in mind are nil. Many of the operations through the years carried out by the CIA and the NSA with the full knowledge of the President probably make this look like child's play but have never become public.

And Slick Willie was a saint?? Come on,, I know you hate GWB,, but take of your Hate Bush glasses and take a look.. Slick Willie should be in jail along with his wife.. both are outright felons..

I do indeed hate GW Bush & have no respect for the privileged "Do you know who my daddy is?" coward. We can debate him vs Slick Willie all you want but Slick Wiilie's crime was in lying about a consensual BJ....Who the hell cares? (It didn't cost me a dime in tax money or the lives of any of our soldiers) We haven't even seen the tip of the iceberg in re the crimes of this administration which will, hopefully come out when we get a Real Justice Dept. back.
Besides, are you arguing that GW Bush's crimes should go unpunished because you can point out other criminals? (Should Al Capone have been set free because Bugsy Seigel also committed crimes?)

As a person who maintained a Top Secret security clearance for many years ,(& was aware of & took part in many of the secret programs run by our government) I can assure you that the crimes perpetrated by the Bush Administration are far from "child's Play."
They represent the most dangerous & Un-American intrusion on the rights of U.S. citizens since our founding in 1776.

I strongly agree. Having had security clearances Top Secret and above, what is being done today is far beyond the abuses of past administrations. The NSA is not far from me. Some of it's employees or it's contractors are my friends and/or neighbors. While no one will speak in detail, their body language is unmistakable. The public should be concerned.
