All Harman stokers use the same stoker mechanism. Anyone ever burn buck coal in a Harman stoker? It looks like it may be a problem getting rice. I don't want 24 tons of buck I can't burn.

I'm pretty sure Matthaus burnt buck in a Harman Mag stoker,, with no issues,, so I really don't see any big concern..
I'll let Matt confirm this,, there probably were some minor adjustments to the stoker .

Thanks Greg. I'll pm him. I hope thats correct. If I can burn buck without any problems, that would be great. All printed specs for the Harman stokers says rice coal is the specfied fuel. Oddly, there is a picture of buck coal in the VF3K manual but no reference to it. If anyone has some buck coal in my general area and could sell me or loan me a 5 gallon bucket of buckwheat coal to try in my stoker, please pm me. Thanks,
Terry

Coalkirk Does your Harman grates have air holes all the way up to the top or is there a few inches where there is no holescoalkirk wrote:Thanks Greg. I'll pm him. I hope thats correct. if so you will have no Problem burning buck unless you have a poor draft if the holes go all the way to the top then the
fire can burn closer to the top of the grates The fire can sneek up into the hopper but if you have a strong draft the fire will be Pulled away from the top and hopper so there is no chance for a hopper fire where does your fire burn at the top middel or end of the grates
