In general... NO!... they make an inexpensive wood furnace and boiler, that they claim will burn coal.. But from my experiences and the experiences of the forum members struggleing to keep a fire all night long, to control the burn rate, not lose the fire on warmer days, etc... in general, they burn wood OK, but not very good with coal.
The Clayton 1600 adn 1800 are closer to a coal burning design, and a few forum members have reasonably good luck with these units..
But none of the US Stove products are as good as a Harman, Alaska, Keystoker, AHS, or other made for coal furnace or boiler. Any hand feed coal apliance will burn wood. But most wood burning apliances are not good coal burners.
