Are there other states in the USA that produce anthracite coal, or does the great state of PA have the monopoly
I've done some searching but haven't come up with anything

The great state of PA has the monoply. Theres a good chance that if you buy ANTHRACITE anywhere on this globe it came from here. There is some in Germany and I think Russia. Virginia has some semi anthracite and I think there is a little pocket in one of the south western states but by far NEPA contains the lions share.

There are a few small fields scattered around, Arizona I believe has one and I think China and Vietnam may have a smattering of it. About 90% of the world's known reserves are in NE PA IIRC. And, I can't think of a better place for it. :)

Sometimes in Ky, you will see some semi-Anthracite, not often, just small pockets, not enough to market, it just gets mixed in with the Bituminous.

Click the link above and then click on item 5.2 to see world production of anthracite.

Not only does PA not have the monopoly on world anthracite production, it isn't the leading producer either.

It is, however, the anthracite king of North and South America. It probably could be king in the world again if you guys would convince your neighbors to burn it and congressmen to get on the stick and relax the MSHA standards for anthracite mines!

I didn't say it had a monoploy or was the leader in production, I said it has the largest reserve of it in the world. :)
