Freddy, you've got more coal than anyone I know who presently does not own a coal burning device!!  But boy when it does come, you are ready.
My coal bunker is finally all graded, level and ready to form for concrete. It had to go on an area with a slope and it took alot of fill and grading to get this spot level.

Nice job of grading

Did you do it or have a contractor?

If DIY did you compact it up in thin layers with a plate compactor?

if no -- Put the lawn sprinkler on it for a day - get it good and soaked so it settles and all the air in the soil / gravel migrates out - then let it dry out for a few days and re level

My ex-brother in law is an excavation contractor and he did it. There is alot of stone in that base. Also 3 dumploads of fill and then top soil. I'm real pleased with how the the grading turned out. it was a pretty steep slope there. it's all graded so that water coming down the slope will run behind the coal bunker. I don't know right now when I'll get it formed and poured as I'm busy with work right now. I'm taking off on Thursday to go to Superior to pick up a load if rice coal and a couple of buckets of buck to try in my stoker. If the buck seems to work well, I will probably get 24 tons of buck as the rice is still being rationed.

If it doesn't come in you can always light all 48 tons and keep the whole state of Maine warm. :dancing:

Looks like that coal is busting at the seams. You should bury yourself and leave your head poping out. That would make a great avatar. Good luck with all that black gold.

My wife grew up in Fargo, ND. Her father was the chief facilities engineer for a large VA Hospital. In the winter time when there was an underground pipe breakage, they piled coal on the ground and set it on fire to thaw the frozen ground so it could be dug up and the repair made.

I'm wondering if the weight shift will effect the Earth's orbit. If the sun sets earlier tonight than last night, we'll know!

I sure hope my boiler comes.
Not to bust your Bubble Freddy But Superior has about 700 or so tons sitting on there Pile you will never have a Problem
getting Pea coal So order all you want because all they will do is crush it down to make Buck Rice & Barley
Rice & Nut coal is the # 1 seller for Anthracite coal They will be more then Happy if you buy more It will cost them more
money to crush it down So order more all you want Make the bin bigger  You can become a coal broker up there
Oh buy the way There is another member on here that has about 65 tons sitting in his yard and he is coming down for
20 to 25 more tons So you will have to Hurry up He also burns Pea

Nooooo, I'd need at least two more piles, Rice & Stove, and twice as much of each just for starts. Might be a fun venture, but I'm not zoned for retail sales. This is just my Dad preaching to me "Tomorrow belongs to those that plan today".

I've read that Superior has a mountain of Pea on hand. I'd love to see it. If coal catches on here like pellets, I'd guess that pile would grow small real fast. Right now, anyone that has 20 ton of Rice has more than Superior! You just never know what the future will bring.

Heeheeee! I like the "buried up to my head" idea, but I'll tell you what.... I forgot to move my rake and it got buried up to it's head. Not all that deep, about 3 1/2 feet of it. Well, I went to pull it out & thought for a second it was there for good! It did finally pull out, but bent the head out an inch. I had to give it a thump to straighten it out. I think a human buried would soon be a corpse.

No doubt someone just got a call.... "Sorry, no delivery for you at this time". :(

That was my rice!!!!! I did get that call Monday! :x :x

Freddy,

How funny was that! Sure enough, got that call. I'm looking at your pic of the truck dumping and thinking "yup that pic was supposed to have my house in the background!"

Ha

Mitch

P.S. I am losing hope on Superior and rice. I have been on the list for a month. Hope I don't wait to long and no one else has any either!

I think if you're on the list that Superior will come through for you. It'll be worth the wait.

Post a pic of your house & we can photoshop the truck into your yard & the coal into your bin. Then later this year when you're cold we can photoshop a nice warm you into your living room. ;) :) :) Noooo, You'll get coal, you will! If I don't get my boiler we'll have to start crunching my Pea into Rice & I'll spend the winter with you.... unless you want to bring your boiler here. Who has priority? The guy with the coal & no boiler or the guy with the boiler & no coal? Argfhhhhhh! My brain is melting!
