coal-trol on the alaska 140

Hello, does anyone have experience with using the coal-trol on the alaska 140?

Not sure. I recall they were trying to test out the arrangement But I havent seen the results yet. Hopefully somone who actually has tried it will see this soon. In the mean time you might want to post any specific questions you have about the coal-trol so they will get answered on the first try.

As a general matter the Coal-trol works with the 140. There are caveats, though:

• Alaska has been telling their customers since we first started selling Coal-trol that they void the warranty on any stove that gets the Coal-trol installed on it. I believe there is some question as to what they can legally deny warranty coverage on (e.g. car companies and dealers can't void the warranty on everything when you install an aftermarket stereo), but I'm not a lawyer and I don't know for sure one way or the other. Regardless, the fact remains that Alaska is likely going to give you a lot of resistance if you need to get a motor replaced or some other warranty repair/replacement.
• We only support the use of Coal-trol on this appliance for use with coal. We had a report of one person looking into burning pellets in their 140 with the Coal-trol. We do not know if the 140 is certified for burning this fuel and do not want to encourage using the stove in a way that is not tested and cleared by the manufacturer.
• If you intend to install on a 140, please contact us with the current rating of the blower fan. We've run a 140 for a couple of hours without problems due to current draw, but we'd want to be sure the ratings of the blower and our fan circuit are sympatico. We also want to make sure you understand the warranty issue clearly, to avoid hard feelings down the road.

Thanks for the information. What about the use of a limit switch. Can this be used with the coal-trol? Also what does the limit switch plug into a regular 110 outlet?

I'm assuming you're talking about the plenum/bonnet limit switch controlling the circulation blower. If you opt to use this then you would not plug the convection blower into the Coal-trol. Instead you would leave it and the limit switch wired more or less as is, making it independent of the Coal-trol.

What would the coal-trol do for my set up? Keystoker Kaa2 and a oil hot water 3 zone pump system.

Unfortunately, Efo, not too much. Coal-trol doesn't yet support boilers.
