Power vent location

Power vent location

PostBy: jab On: Sat Jul 26, 2008 10:11 pm

I recently ordered the Reading Stoves Susquehanna RSDB-06 Utility Furnace. It seemed to be the perfect choice, since I can connect it directly to my existing ductwork.
Because of the many windows, doors, and inside corners of my home, I would like to place the power venter out at the end of my deck.
The furnace will be in the basement, and the the vent pipe will run out under the deck (about 13') to the power vent unit.
I know the power vent unit is designed to be mounted in the wall, so I'm wondering if my plan to place it out at the end of the deck will work OK??

Also, the furnace has an 8" vent opening, and the venter has a 4" opening (I think -- the order is 10 weeks out so I haven't seen it yet). Does the reducing adapter go toward the furnace, or close to the venter?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Is the power vent rated for outdoor instalation?
Mount power vent inside and run your pipe outside of the house.
Come out of the boiler full size pipe and then reduce at the power vent.
Make sure that your pipe under the deck is sloped away from the PV to stop moisture from finding the lowest point.
As long as your 3 ft from a door or a window you should be fine under the deck.
Make sure there are no combustiable material near exhaust.
Good luck

Thanks BDD.

The power venter is going to be a SWG 4HDS. I saw one at the store and it appears that the motor and all the "workings" of the venter are outside in a normal installation. I'm guessing that as long as I make sure the electrical connections are done in outdoor rated junctions / conduit it should be OK. I guess I just wanted a second opinion.

Thank you.
Once everything is done, I'll try to update and maybe post some pictures.
