I have a coal insert ready to be installed but I need to have my chimney lined. Its almost 25' tall and is 8x12" tile. I cant seem to get a real answer on what to put in or how long it will last. Some people say a stainless steel liner will only last 2 years. I live in westchester co. in NY state. I thought of having a cement liner put in but I am lost as to what to do. Any info would be appreciated.

I don't believe you need a liner,, you should be able to get plenty of draft with that chimney..

A SS liner should last 10-15 years... a masonry chimney will last a century.

My chimney is 10X10 I.D. and 24' high.In the middle of the winter I'll get .08 out of mine so it should be fine.

Lsfarm,
My chimney was installed in 1938 and I noticed a SMALL crack in it so your est. of 100 years aint far off :P

My SS double wall insulated chimney has been in use since 1992. I inspected it this past spring when I shut down the stove and cleaned it out and it looks great. The only thing I've replaced over the years is the screening that is on the cap to keep the critters out. I've replaced it once and it needs to be replaced again.

Is a SS liner that goes inside a chimney different than the double wall chimney I have?
