Another reason for Bush and the republicans to push for more oil drilling:

Bush pushes oil drilling, but more US fuel exported

* Reuters
* , Wednesday July 30 2008

By Tom Doggett
WASHINGTON, July 30 (Reuters) - The White House on Wednesday made a new push for expanded offshore drilling to help lower fuel prices, days after new government data showed American petroleum product exports hit record levels. [...]

"The sooner Congress lifts the ban, the sooner we can get this oil from the ocean floor to your gas tank," Bush said.
Critics of the offshore drilling plan noted that the Energy Department released data this week showing that U.S. exports of finished petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel fuel and jet fuel, soared to 1.592 million barrels per day in May. The exports set a record for the month and were up 31 percent from a year ago.[...]

The Bush administration says the United States needs to develop more of its oil resources to reduce its addiction to foreign crude.

Exports were equal to about half the 3.204 million barrels a day in petroleum products that the United States imported during May. In May, U.S. oil companies shipped 183,000 barrels of gasoline a day out of the country, even as Americans saw prices at the pump steadily rise.

May's gasoline exports were almost double year-earlier levels, the most for May since 1945 when America was providing motor fuel to other countries toward the end of World War II.
U.S. exports of diesel fuel reached 444,000 barrels a day in May, a record for any month and four times higher than a year ago.
Jet fuel exports of 76,000 barrels a day in May were the second-highest level ever for the month and almost quadruple shipments from a year earlier.

So, tell me, how is more drilling going to help us?

Do you think all the new cars going on the market now are going to disappear? What about the millions of trucks, trains etc..... Whats he going to do outlaw them? Maybe propose stricter environmental legislation outlawing inefficient vehicles... It's impossible. If they marketed a car right now that used no oil for energy it would take 2 decdes before it saturated the market and that's beside the fact they don't have one even let alone large transportation vehicles.

That's not weaning, that's taking drastic measures that will inevitably destroy the American way of life. The infrastucture for oil has been built up over the last century, it has evolved with oil. Replacing it with something else in a decade is a pipe dream and very dangerous one at that..

Obama is taking drugs if he thinks we can wean ourselves off of foriegn oil. UNLESS the Democrats in congress agree to let off shore oil drilling to tart again..

As Richard said, what is going to happen all the cars, trucks, trains and airplanes.. ??? GET REAL !!

What we CAN do is stop burning the precious liquid gold in stationary applications.. use nuclear, wind and solar for electricity, and heat..
But talk about a social program.. well it may actually happen..
Because if Obama gets elected, the Economic crash, and ensueing depression will necessitate the forming of a government program just like the CCC in the Depression.. And we can all finance the projects with a government program... Yeah,,, that sounds good.. any $10 project costs $120 if the government does it..

Yeah, I'm so excited about Obamas 'energy plan' that Ithink I'll go out and play in the freeway!!

Oil prices are down already just on the possibility of more drilling.
Pelosi turned off the cameras and shut off the lights in a pathetic attempt to stifle debate on the subject. Pelosi will not allow a vote cause she knows she will lose.
Sad sad person.

Get this straight: There is no shortage of oil product. Speculators are buying oil because they hope the price will be higher in the future. Even the prospect of more drilling will make speculators realize the price of oil could be LOWER in the future, and they will want to sell off now to lock in the profits.

I suspect Devil knows all this already, and he just posts these things to pull our chains, while sitting with a bottle of wild turkey and cackling maniacaly

Here's a little hard math for you:

We Americans have about 3% of the Earth's known reserves of oil & yet we burn over 25% of the oil used, worldwide. If that isn't a formula for failure, I don't know what is.
Until you can show me that you know more about oil than T. Boone Pickens, the rich oil magnate who says "We can't drill our way out of this problem!"....I'll stick with those (like Obama) who realize that we have to end our dependence on oil, & stop listening to our "drug dealer" ....Exxon-Mobil.... who want to keep us hooked!

Devil, why gamble if you don't have too? The mission to the moon was just that, if it failed or took longer than expected the only thing that was lost was some pride and/or a boatload of money. The stakes are much higher with the energy situation. So what do we do ten years from now if his plan fails?

the rich oil magnate who says "We can't drill our way out of this problem!"....I'll stick with those (like Obama) who realize that we have to end our dependence on oil.

I haven't seen anyone including McCain suggest drilling more oil will solve the problem outright. We need a comprehensive plan including drilling more of our own oil. The fact is that Obama's energy plan is largely dependent on technology that doesn't even exist and fails to address the immediate needs of this nation right now.

I'll reiterate that he does not support Nukes, he does not support off-shore drilling and he does not support coal. Now he may say publicly that he supports those things but if you read the fine print they all have stipulations many of which are unattainable at least in the near future.

I suggest you goto http://www.c-span.org/ & listen too Obama's energy proposal before you decide you are against it.(That goes for everyone here.... It's the 6th link down under "Recent Programs" )
He is not against many of the things you suggest in your above statement.

I'd suggest reading the PDF from his site and it will tell you exactly as I have stated. Everything he has said about nuclear or coal which are the two major proven viable resources this country has come with stipulations. Two many "if's" pandering to the environmentalist crowd and still trying to remain on both sides of the issue which scares me the most because you have no clue exactly what he wants to do.

As for the video I refuse to install Real Media player and all the baggage that comes with it, that video should be in a non-proprietary format like MPEG1. For those of you in the same boat you can try installing Real Alternative but there is no guarantee that will work. You can get it here, last time i installed it the program was malware and virus free but I can't make any gurantees. I persoanlly won't install it. No need, the .rm format is dead a long time ago.

My computer gives you the option of watching it on Windows Media Player too.

Edit: I think the CSPAN website (http://www.c-span.org/) gives you the option of watching their videos on Real Player or Windows Media Player & they provide written transcripts.

It all boils down to having leaders who care to do the right things to make America strong and not so reliant on foreign oil. We need leaders who will take action and not kill the American public with hot air and empty promises. George Bush had an incredible opportunity to make the world a better place and I think he blew it.
