Hot Blast 20FB: Coal/Wood? What size coal?

Hot Blast 20FB: Coal/Wood? What size coal?

PostBy: Dance On: Sat Aug 09, 2008 12:13 pm

Hi Everyone,
I just picked up a Hot Blast 20FB for $30, I couldn't resist at that price. The guy I bought it from said it was a coal/wood stove but he only burned coal once as he has loads of free wood. I can't find any information on the stove on the internet except for some parts (grate, handle, etc) and was looking to get some basic information on it. The only stuff I saw on the internet was for the furnaces, which it isn't. It is a hand fired round stove, approximately 20 inches across and 3 foot 2 inches high (including the 6" base).

It doesn't look like a super heavy duty stove, but should be ok.

This model is a coal/wood stove?
What size coal should it burn?
Does anyone have a manual or know where I can get a manual for it from?

I will try to post some pictures later.

Thanks :)

Ian gets the award for the shortest reply post. :D

Please post photos as soon as you can, I'm currious what 'Hot Blast' put together as a stove.. Make sure you show the grates, firebox and ashpan.. and the shaker mechanism/handle..

As usual, I have to disagree with you Greg!! :P

Ian should have replied with just the word "Nut".......the word "coal" unnecessarily doubled that lengthy post of Ian's!

Very interesting stove,, I'd burn nut, maybe nut/pea mix.. it looks pretty well made and should burn coal very well from the design of the firebox..
Congrats on a good find,, and great price !!

Keep us posted through the season as you burn coal in it.. to let us know how it does..

I love thoes type of grates.Aint they the type that you can pull the small middle grate out and dump the fire.Does anyone make grates like that in a modern stove?
