Hat's Off To Richard

Hat's Off To Richard

PostBy: Devil505 On: Wed Aug 13, 2008 2:47 pm

At the risk of embarrassing our fearless forum leader, & in what most will consider to be a somewhat surprising post, I must take my hat off to Richard for providing a very steady & fair hand to a forum that is providing a very important service to our fellow countrymen in a time of need.

With home heating prices at record highs & with a veritable flood of people trying to ensure their families will survive the winter's cold next year, I think we all owe a debt of gratitude to Richard for providing a free meeting place where so much expertise on coal heat can be found! :notworthy:

(I know Richard is waiting for a "zinger" from me... ...But none will be forthcoming!)

On a side note, many of us have found the "Off Topic" forum here to provide a great "Town Hall" to air our opinions. As most of you who put on your hip boots & "wade into" that forum know, Richard & I rarely, if ever, agree on anything!

But

Even though I know that he (Richard) would often rather shoot me than post my opinions, I must admit that he has never used his "God Like" powers to curb my posts or further his side of any debate, & it is appreciated!

I salute you Richard!

Thanks & You're welcome.

BTW while I have the chance I've noticed a lot of images that are hot linked from this site on others. I'll be replacing them with giant "McCain for President" ones. Just a heads up for whoever is doing it.

If I wore a hat I'd take mine off too. The best part of this forum are the members (after Richard of course). I've never been on a forum without spammers or idiots who just want to get a rise out of people. I guess Devil is the closest we have to that. Just kidding. We need a donation link so we can help Richard install the virtual ladies and such.

Thanks

I agree, I enjoy my time here on the forum and have made some good friends as a result.

Thanks Richard.

I've noticed a lot of images that are hot linked from this site on others.

Please explain "hot linking", I have heard of it but I don't know what it is. Thanks.

Kind of hidden but if you want to make a donation there is link in this thread: PayPal Donation Button

Don't expect any virtual ladies, I'm still working on the virtual beer tap. I must keep my priorities straight.

That was a joke aimed at Devil, not sure if he missed it or went . Hot linking would be for example if you link to a image on another server. For example this is on 40Lb. Heads site:

Image

Since I have control of this site too, I can check the referrer and serve whatever I want. 8-) If the referrer is 40lb head server the regular image, if it isn't serve the replcement.

For example suppose you use one of the smilies here on another forum . I can set it so instead it serves a giant image on John McCain. :D The best part is that the person hot linking wouldn't know it because they have the real image cached locally on their machine. Others viewing that web page however would get the replacement image.

I rarely agree with Devil (politicly at least) but I have to agree with him on this one. Brownie points for you , Devil! Thank you Richard, this forum is awesome. I think I'm hooked. It's kind of like Face Book for grumpy old men. Maybe you can change the name to Coal Face or Coal Book  . Anyhow, Thanks again for the use of this forum. There is no lack of knowledge and great people here!
