My neighbor just switched from an outdoor woodburner to a K8. After 15 years of being the recipient of his smoke, I am ecstatic! He wanted me to post a question about ThermoPEX, to see if any of you boiler users have used it or heard if it is any better than.....whatever, I don't know exactly what he uses. I know he melts a 2' wide swath of snow off his grass. But he doesn't seem to be losing too many degrees over the 100' run from the woodburner to his house. I think the stuff is $11/foot. He's been able to cut his run down to 60' but he's wondering if it will save him enough coal to justify the expense.

thanks

A lot of members on this forum have installed boilers in outbuildings using pex-al-pex with foam insulation within seamless corrugated plastic pipe. Check out this post: KA-6 Installed in an Out-Building.

Sounds to me like your neighbor is using really poorly insulated pipes, or they are not buried deep enough...maybe both. Tell your neighbor to shop around, sometimes you can find thermopex (or a knock-off version) on ebay for much less than $11 per foot.

ThermoPex is worth it, any heat that you can avoid loosing to the ground is more money inside your home. I did see and I believe it was on EBay this store that sold outdoor wood-burner stoves and they sold both ThermoPex and a version of their own for less money.
