Harman shows the baro damper location at the vent exit at the bottom of the boiler, why can't I keep it up just before going into the chimney like my oil boiler? I don't see why it would matter as I have good draft the way it is.

Look on Field Controls Website
**Broken Link(s) Removed**They show many different locations for it. It should be in a vertical or horizontal run with the weights on the door adjusted accordlingly. I have my damper about 3-4' up the pipe so I can see it and adjust it if necessary.

Just make sure you have (or borrow) a Draft Gauge (Manometer) to set up the draft/baro correctly....

Steveyrock

My damper is located in a T in the horizontal portion of the stove pipe, as it runs through the wall out to the chimney. I have had no issues with this setup. One advantage I could see with Harmans's approcach would be easy of cleaning out the yearly accumulation of fly ash. You could accomplish the same thing here usign a T instead of an elbow.

Either location should work fine. By the way, with the baro located as in highlanders setup, you could open it and use compressed air to blow fly ash into the chimney where it will drop. Also, you can remove the baffle inside the ash compartment of the VF3K to cleanout fly ash at the elbow where it comes out of the boiler. another alternative would be to use a "T" where it comes off of the boiler with a cap. Then it would be real easy to clean out the fly ash. Make sure you use a manometer to set the draft with your baro. It makes alll the difference.
