Settings for Keystoker

OK, read the installation manual and user manual for the coal trol.

Says I have to adjust the min max feed rates , etc.over a period of an hour for each.

Is there not just a chart or table of info that you gys have that tells me all settings I should put in for the coal trol for a keystoker 160 koker to make this a little less of a hastle?

Page 10 of your User Manual gives you starting values for various brands. Then you can tweek it after that. My Leisure line wasn't too far off the initial settings (6 & 40), I think I am at 8 and 46 roughly . I do back it down to 6 when it get warm and slows the idle down to a very low burn. Then, You can increse (or decrease) the max until you have 1/2"-1" of ash at the end of your burn plate, if it pushing hot coals off the end, max is too high.

If you are ordering a Coal-trol installed from the factory the settings should come already set to the recommended starting point for that model stove. Many people run just fine with these recommended settings. However, as you get used to the stove and burning coal you may want to see about tweaking things to get the most out of your stove.

The manual that ships with the thermostats has the most up to date recommended settings information in it. The PDFs posted on our site are a bit dated at this point. We're in the process of updating the site with the latest manuals, product line, the new igniter kit, and the rest.

Also, there are many threads here on the forums that go into people's experiences with tweaked settings for various models of stoves.

ok, great, one more question. My installer says that the 160,000 btu of the koker 160 may be too much for my house. How do I set the Coal Trol to only allow the koker to produce say 100,000 btu max? What settings should I look at to do this? As you can tell I am very new to this but learning quickly! Thank you!

Take your MAX, multiply by 100 (or whatever you want your actual maximum KBTU output to be) and then divide by 160.

So, for a Keystoker and using the latest manual's recommended settings (and assuming that this recommended setting is achieving full burn on your stove):

MIN = 10
MAX = 85

MAX for 100KBTU = 85 * 100 / 160 = 53.125

Round it up, so 54 for a MAX should put you in the ballpark of 100KBTU. This calculation, of course, depends on having the original MAX setting be optimal full burn. If you find you had to make an adjustment to MAX to achieve a full burn then use the MAX setting you come up with in the calculation instead of 85.
