I would like to vent a Harman DVC-500 into a 30' chimney flue that has an 8" stainless steel liner....someone told me a dvc-500 can only be directed vented and can not be installed in a chimney flue...I need a real answer Thanks

Could be the way it is designed as a DIRECT VENT only stove, it may not work without a direct vent and/or a tall chimney, that is why it has the direct vent so you do not need a chimney.

the direct vents are normally 3-4" exhaust and require little piping to get it outside, so you 8" liner chimney is overkill for that stove.

I took the picture from my DVC-500 manual. I don't see where it says you cant, but I was led to believe you cant.

Hope it helps

I looked at that unit before buying my alaska and was told by one of harmans largest dealers that it absolutely cannot be hooked into a chimney and must be direct vented. The reason behind this is that the vent pipe is double wall and the exhaust goes through the innner portion of the pipe and the air intake is in the outer portion of the pipe. It must be done this way as the dvc is an airtight stove and requires an outside air source

I have one of those types of power vents on our Bock oil heater. It preheats the incoming air by sucking the air in through the outside duck as the exhaust is exited out through the inside duct of the power vent. Sort of like how they do with some gas or pellets stoves, it's suppose to make the system more efficient because the appliance has a smaller temperature gap to over come.
