Hello all,

Any opinons on the above topic. I am looking at Hitzer, Keystoker, Alaska, and Harman. Hand-fired or automatic. Thanks.

Seems like everyone is happy with what they have no matter the brand. Maybe chose on price. I was considering a pellet stove due to automated features, along those lines I'd take a stoker over a hand fired.

i have a hitzer 983 with double doors that i picked up used last fall. i am using it as a free-standing stove in the basement of my 2 story home which is 2000 sqft not counting the basement. basement is at 76*, 1st floor is 73* and 2nd floor is a comfortable 68*...been burning wood 70% of the time with no problems( it's free)...using coal when temps stay below 30*for awhile and it heats great that way also..i'm planning a new house and will be putting a 983 in it. i live in sw pa. and the duel burning options give me a choice of fuel during mild winters

Jade, I actually have the 983 too, it has a huge firebox. I have mine patrially blocked to make it smaller, that is why I reccomend the 503 EZ Flow, it can burn at a lower heat, so I don't have to deal with wood burning. For your new house, if you are going with freestanding again. look at the Hitzer 30-95 or 50-93 hopper stoves, you really will like them even more.
