Picked up the boiler at the dealer yesterday 8/24 and took off the sheet metal and removed the boiler box from the base.

Started drinking Black and Tan.

Left it sit on the truck overnight and three of us had it in the basement first thing this morning Sunday8/25.

took a total of 20 seconds to slide her down the steps with two men up top and a 1 inch rope. 1 man 50 years old the next 54 and the third man dowstairs 59 years of age. no young pups,no pulleys, rolled it on pipes across the floors. The better half is in Japan for three weeks so she was not a negative factor in the move.

it got stuck one time and a gentle push with a bar got her moving again the rest of the way down the 2x6s.very smooth .
if your going to try this wear gloves and don't fight it, once she starts moving keep her going.

Good looking unit....it seems beastier than I imagined one to be. Congrats on getting 'er safely down stairs.

You didn't need to send the better half to Japan.... Detroit would have been plenty far enough. ;)

Way to go  , that black and tan must work wonders. Are you keeping the oil for back up? Hope you never have to bring it back up.

LOL Freddy, she loves to travel but I worry about her flying in this day and age.

azzip, yes black and tan is the elixir of life but many southerners call Yuengling beverages PA piss or pee water,I beg to differ. :D
as far as the oil boiler well its 41 years old and was installed when the house was built in 1967 so it's going to be cut up and hauled out out the basement when the Harman comes on line. That old New Yorker served me well.

The old oil boiler has a Wayne gun on it and that I installed about 8 years ago.The new Harman also came with the Wayne Blue Angel. I am just going to plug the older gun into the Harman.

Maybe you should keep the old girl(the new yorker). If you were ever to get sick and was out of commision for a while you could still use it for heat.Just a thought.

Why does that VF remind me of Darth Vader?

Welcome to the small but growing VF3000 family!

How close did the units delivery come to the dealer promise date?

I think that's why he got the oil gun option on the VF3000.

I wonder if the 40 year old boiler is more efficient then the oil gun option on the VF3000? hmmmmm

It looks like a late model gun on that New Yorker, I would guess they about equal.

Two separate heat appliances. Redundancy = safety and backup.

And having two boilers with primary secondary piping would allow automatic operation of the second non-coal boiler along with the coal boiler when you have extra demand on those very cold days. Such a system might allow a smaller less expensive coal boiler. The smaller boiler would be working harder and more efficiently than a larger boiler with less demand on it.

You can't get much smaller than the Harman VF3000.

True. But adding the second non-coal boiler might allow someone to use a VF-3000 that wouldn't do the job on it's own rather than buying a larger more expensive coal boiler.

Yes as I stated I put that gun in 8 years ago.

I am heating only about 1400 square feet, small rancher and will be burning coal all the time except if I am away for a period of time or I get an injury that I can't tend to the ash and filling the hopper and or coal bin. I am not getting any younger.

coalmeister ,the dealers arrival date was right on the money, august 8th and this boiler was one of his yearly allotment wich was 8, he had two left that were unsold so I grabbed one as he said he could still have the oil gun option added at the factory.I was very lucky to get it on a short notice.

and yes I would keep my old oil boiler on line with this Harman but I am pushing the limit with the old girl as I was told five years ago by a plumber who serviced it to think about a replacement. I sure didn't want to buy and install a new oil boiler with the cost of fuel oil. I am no expert on boilers and I have no idea how efficient the oil burning will be.

I thank all who post information on these topics because I have been reading and learning many things I didn't know about coal boilers. Thankyou.
