It's been a couple of years since I took the oil burner servicing course but as I remember it new oil burners have a internal damper on the combustion burner forced draft inlet. It cuts of the draft path and heat loss through the boiler when the burner is not running. I'm on travel now and don't have access to my books but I'll research and post the results.

Well I just filled the hopper after 5 days and it took 3 spackel buckets to fill her back up. That is about 21 pounds a day.

I don't know if it is ilegal for a oil burner, I do know that most oil burners have a slight smell from them when not running.
Like the nozzle might drip a little fuel oil when it's off. You don't smell it as long as you the draft up the chimney.
but if you close off the chimney with a electric damper you will get a little fuel oil oder in the basement.

with a gas burner, when it's off there is no smell from it.

I was thinking about installing a electric damper in my oil burner but first drilling a 1/2" hole in it so you do get some air/smell through the boiler and up the chimney, but I never tried it.

It has a programmable pre and post purge also a draft proof - it uses a self cleaning impeller type fan rather than a "squirrel" cage - so it may be used with a old or newer oil appliance :D

If you need one for gas - look at the SS1 version

I don't have a natural draft suggestion.

It's NOT 120v it's 24v!! I've bin thinking about getting one of these to put on my oil boiler to hold the heat in. I think you should be able to wire it to work off the thermostat signal?? Between thermostat and the triple aquastat? i'm NOT sure on this.. :notsure: :gee:

Razzler,
If a 24V damper would work off a triple aquastat that would be great.

Does anyone out there know how to wire it up?

It would "wire up" just like it was over a gas appliance

but the drama will come in that is will not have a pre flame - or a programmable post flame purge

That's why these are not approved for use on oil appliances.

I suppose if your were handy with logic controls you could build a contraption.... but who is comfortable doing that for products of combustion controls?????

not me!
