Gustav may alter plans for RNC

In light of the storm it appears plans may be altered, From this article things being considered is postponement of the event or turing into a telethon type event:

A senior McCain source said Saturday that officials are considering turning the convention into a service event, a massive telethon to raise money for the Red Cross and other agencies to help with the hurricane.

They are not left with a lot of options here and they all "damned if you do, damned if you don't" scenrios. If they hold it as planned the storm is going to overshadow it. For this election that would be a travesty especially considering the massive amount of media coverage for the DNC. Postponement would be a planning and logistical nightmare. The telethon sounds like fine idea but I fear that might be seen as taking advantage of the situation no matter how sincere it is.

"The hurricane’s going to hit New Orleans about the time they start (the RNC convention). [Chuckle] The timing is — at least it appears now that it’ll be there Monday. That just demonstrates that God’s on our side. [Laughter] … Everything’s cool."
