I've noticed trend lately with people turning their cars off at lights, drive thru's and other places where you are making a very short stop. I'm waiting to pull up behind some guy a stop sign and see them do it next. I just went to the bank, the lady in front of me... engine off... guy pulls up next me,and turns his car off.
If you are one of these people here's a bit advice, you "aint'" saving *censored* and are costing yourself money. Perhaps one of the more knowledgeable people in this field could clarify but a car uses very little gas when idling andfrom my understanding it takes a lot of gas to start to it. Perhaps newer ones not as much? In any event that is besides the point. Even if you are saving a few cents every time you turn it off its not going to make up for the bill for the new starter you're going to need in a very short time.
When to shut it off? I don't know but I think if you expect to be moving in 10 minutes you're probably better off just leaving it on.
