What do I want? I want my country back!

I grew up believing that we were the good guys in this world. We had saved the world from tyrants like Hitler, Mussolini, Tojo & Stalin. We fought against evil countries that used torture against captured enemy soldiers, spied on their own people & threw people into prison with no access to the courts and used military force to squash smaller countries to steal their assets.
This is "The Bush Doctrine" & it is not my country any more.
I'm ashamed of it......and so should you be!

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- After months of high-pitched battles with Republicans over the issue of offshore drilling, House Democrats have given in and decided to allow a 26-year ban on drilling to expire at the end of the month.


A $600 billion funding bill won't include any language on offshore drilling, effectively lifting the ban on October 1.

House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey, D-Wisconsin, told reporters Tuesday that a massive $600 billion stopgap funding bill slated for a House vote on Wednesday will not include any language on drilling, effectively lifting the ban on October 1.

Democrats pushed to add a proposal passed in the House of Representatives last week to open up areas at least 50 miles offshore to drilling if states agree, but the White House objected.

"So that will mean ... this next election will decide what our drilling policy will be because there will be no language in this bill on that subject, and as you know that means that at least temporarily the moratorium is lifted," Obey said.

Republicans on Capitol Hill have seized on offshore oil drilling as a major election-year issue, citing public opinion polls that show a majority of Americans support more offshore drilling. iReport.com: Do you support offshore drilling?

I believe they silently torpedoed the bill by giving no royalties to the state involved, hence no state will allow drilling, smart aren't they?

"Just when it appeared that we could celebrate Congress lifting the ban on oil shale, Senator Reid “has decided to sneak an extension of the oil shale ban through as Congress fights over the financial bailout.”

Sec 1602 continues ban on oil shale. The language follows: SEC. 1602. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, including section 152 of division A of H.R. 2638 (110th Congress), the Consolidated Security, Disaster Assistance, and Continuing Appropriations Act, 2009, the terms and conditions contained in section 433 of division F of Public Law 110–161 shall remain in effect for the 19 fiscal year ending September 30, 2009.

Dr. Daniel Fine of MIT reported that 750 billion barrels worth of oil shale have been discovered in Colorado alone. That amount is enough to potentially power the U.S. economy for many decades. Furthermore, if full-scale production begins within five years, the U.S. could completely end its dependence on OPEC by 2020.

An estimated 1.2 trillion to 1.8 trillion barrels of oil is available in the Green River Formation, an area which expands through most of Colorado and parts of Utah and Wyoming. The recoverable oil refined from oil shale would provide another resource for fuel production. According to the U.S. Department of Interior and Bureau of Land Management, a moderate estimate of 800 billion barrels of recoverable oil from oil shale in the Green River Formation is three times greater than the proven oil reserves of Saudi Arabia."
