Even my new pair of Chuck's are made in China now.



I'm fed up with it.

What can we do? Not a lot, I think. Just keep supporting a Communist government and keep buying their products until the Red Chinese have enough leverage to control our economy.

Exactly who is to blame for this? Apparently those responsible are banking on the American consumer not to care where it comes from, as long as the price is good. No more looking for the "union label" around here.

I try and buy American all I can. Sometimes you really have to look or dig deep into the wallet.

Boots: Redwings, the real ones Made in the U.S.A. Haven't looked in years so I don't know if they still carry U.S.A. stamp. If you were at get together yes that little american flag on my boots was the real deal. I've gotten comments about it, American Flag on boots made somewhere else, then I have to take them off to show them....

Casual Shoes: Dexter, when purchased Made inthe U.S.A. Don;t know if they still are.

Sneakers?? LOL good luck with that.

I'm sure some of the materials on them were imported, but at least I know some of money stayed here.

Last time I bought Redwings they were still made here, it's been a few years, I'm past due for a new pair. I'll let you know.

I hear you John. When we were kids, this country made the best TV's in the world! RCA, Zenith, Philco, Westinghouse, etc.
Now there is not one TV still made in the USA, & all those brands have been sold to Asian companies!!

Who is to blame? I think we are all to blame in allowing our government to provide tax incentives to companies who manufacture products overseas...Take those incentives away & give them strictly to US companies who build right here in the USA! (Coal stoves are a great place to start)

You have to watch the Red Wing brand, they have a overseas brand... "Soemthingorother by Red Wing" made in China.

Take those incentives away & give them strictly to US companies who build right here in the USA!

There won't be any of them soon, and no one will remember how to build any of these products!

I don't think it's a Dem/Repub. issue, Devil, not what I intended when I started this thread. I think it's the actions of the powers to be as a whole.

I sell Red Wings and I am sorry to say that half of the shoes/boots in the 2008 catalog say made in china. Red Wing has had a second line called Worx for years that are 100% imported but the Red Wing branded shoes were always USA made. Soon there will be nothing left.

The other thing that spurs shipping our manufacturing overseas is tariffs. An example is the auto industry. Importing a car built in china has a 2.5% tariff imposed on it. An american company shipping to china has a 20% tariff imposed on it. So much for free trade.

After Chrysler was sold the new owners (ex treasury secretary Snow is one of them) partnered with a chinese auto manufacturer, Cherri (sp). We'll be seeing auto imports from them in 2010 sold through Chrysler dealerships.

So why is this happening? That's what I want to know.

The CEO of Chrysler was on with Charlie Rose last week & was not very reassuring about any of the US auto giants being able to survive much longer! Pretty scary thought!

So I guess the owner's manual for my next Ford will be in Chinese???

Yeah, because I want the overly educated workers of America stitching sneakers. Yeah, that's what I want our workers to do.

I think the downfall started long before that, Dev. Remember the 1970's and the gas crunches? All the crappy Japanese cars that started showing up everywhere?

Unions are part of the problem.
I was talking to a USPS worker, he told me the postal carriers have a option of working overtime or not. If management accidentally gave a non-overtime carrier a route that caused him to go over his 8 hour day USPS has to pay both the non overtime worker & the overtime worker for the overtime.
