alaska direct vent operation and vinyl siding

Recently purchased an Alaska Channing III with the Alaska Direct Vent system. Haven't installed it yet and am writing to understand any issues with the vent and vinyl siding. I am under the impression that the exhaust from the stove is pushed from the stove and through the vent. Does the exhaust get hot enough to melt vinyl siding and has anybody had any issues with this system? Had an installer at the house who is not familiar with this vent system and he was unsure how to proceed. His experience involves gas and pellet stoves.

Thanks for any information you can provide.

If you have the vent mounted on the stove, and you only have the pipe coming out of the house, you should have some type of shield around the exhaust or keep it away from the siding, it could discolor it with the fly ash and moisture, it can get 200-300 degrees. do you have a pic of your pipe/cap on the outside of the house you are going to use then we can give you a better idea how to mount.

The vent kit came new with the new stove, it is an "Alaska Direct Vent" there is a piece of pipe that mounts to the back of the stove and the pipe then mounts to the vent on the outside of the house. I don't have any pictures but the system is on Alaska's website.

Thanks

I have the same system. The DV exhausts into a SS shroud that mounts to the outside of the house. I think you'll be fine. Mine doesn't get anywhere near 200-300 degrees. I can put my hand on the stove pipe with no problems.

Ah, it just has the little angled vent (like a dryer vent) opening. Probably wouldn't hurt to put a piece of something below it to protect the siding (just for the fly ash) or just keep it clean every month or so, wash it down or something.
