I'm proud to be 1/2 Polish. My mom makes stuffed cabbage, I eat kielbasa for breakfast. Hey do you know why so many Polish peoples names end in "SKI"?

I'm 1/2 Polish and my last name ends with "SKI" as well. I'm waiting for the punch line too.

It may be that my other 1/2 is Italian.

potato soup - lightly browned butter and flour, add to water cook sliced potatoes, carrots, celery, and spices (salt and pepper)

potato pogachels - not a cookie! Flat potato biscuit eat cold or hot...mustard on top is my favorite...if they weren't so painful to mix I'd have them every week... :)

pierogies - potatoes, onion, and government provided cheese was my favorite as a kid

kraut knuckles - quarter size flat looking dumplings pan fried with cabbage - AWESOME! Call it Haluski if you want but make sure you don't use an egg noodle from a bag...home made is the only way! Also we don't roll our dough...we make a dough ball and tear pieces off, give them a good pinch and drop 'em in the water...give 'em a good boiling while the shredded cabbage is cooking down...finish it all off in the skillet with light oil and spices...super cheap...super taste!

Hungarian Goulash

Chicken Paprikash

My mother's Tomato and Creamed cabbage soup was one of my childhood favorites also.

Forgot another cheap one....sour cream, garlic, kidney bean soup!!! With rye bread!! Don't know who made the best...my mother, wife, grandfather, or myself. Dangerous after effects with this one though   !!!

I don't think there is any polish in my family...I'm very much Austrian/German...but I am very interested in that "SKI" punch line also!! :)

Try them with the Lit'l Polskas (smoked polish sausage) instead, one of my favorites :D

"Canned biscuits"??? While living down south we called them "Whomp Biscuits" by Pillz-berry (Pillsbury)

"Whomp" kind of like the sound they make when you smack it against the counter to open them up...Y'all know wot I mean?

I too enjoy smokey links wrapped in pillsbury dough....good stuff!
