So this has probly been posted before, but how is ash measured? By volume or weight. This summer I've been burning different coals from different breakers and still haven't figured this out. Burning Calvin Lenigs I get alot of ash volume wise but not weight wise. Real fluffy stuff. Harmony burns with not alot of ash volume wise but the bucket is real heavy when it's full.Alot of unburned coal also. Seems like Calvin's is straight coal and UAE is high test mixed with something else. Why can't they just sell the good stuff without the added nonsense? Seems like the stuff they are adding doesn't bring anything to the burner. And it's not like there's alot of unburned pieces, but what is there sticks out more because there isn't more fluffy ash. Does this make sense :) Scott

Scott I think you got you coal mixed up UAE Has one mine and are in one vein of coal lykens # 2 vein Now the vein of coal can change from the beging to the end meaning the Ash content can change lower or higher Uae do not mix anything
to there coal what they get out of the mine is what you get There ash content will run 5% 6% To 7% all the time there
ash should be like a powder or close to it but in the warmer weather it can clinker up soft clinker or if you are giving
it to much air and burning to hot Now Calivin V Lenig will have coal from 4 to 5 Different veins of coal from 4 different
Mines so you will see more of a change in the Ash content 9% to 11% The ash should be more crunchy The veins of coal
is Lykens #4 vein Upper Skidmore vein Middel Skidmore vein Mammoth Middel Split vein & The Rough Vein

Remember anytime you switch coal you have to reset the air and sometimes the feed rate Remember not all coal has
the same chararistic you have to adjust the stoker and play around with it until you find the sweet spot for the summer
& winter time Play around with the Air and feed rate right it down when you find the correct setting it will help you
to set it up the next time you switch coal Ash is by weight look at the AA link below look below the Photo of the AA on the
right side you will see they use weight to measure ASH They say 2000 lbs 1 ton will give 240 lbs of ash well that is if
the coal is at 12% ash content you can figure with the coal you are burning the ash weight will be lower being your
ash content is lower The only way you can tell is by Measuring the coal going in and weighing the ash coming out
with a stoker stove or boiler it is much harder to do then with a hand fed stove or boiler it can be dunn have fun

By weight. Expressed as a % of the coal weight that was burned to produce the ash.
