I have three TVs, all analog, as I'm still using rabbit ears or bow ties. Of my 3 TVs, one doesn't work at all, but I don't know where to throw it, one is in the fireplace room, for guests, who need to watch TV and the third is in the bedroom, to help me fall asleep. I have not watched much TV since 9/11, because I have a computer and the Anthracite Coal Forum.

I got two of the converter coupons. I decided I'd better use them before the government went belly up. I hooked one of the converters up and was really impressed with the reception and the increase to 11 channels from the 5, which I used to get.

Now, I can watch the whole presidential sit-com on TV. ;)

Edit: I turned the title around, which I think, is more correct. You know what I mean.

I've found the best use of TV's is the following:

If you have an open window & a stack of papers that keep getting blown around from the wind......If you take one of those TV machines......& stand it on top of the papers....they won't blow around the room any more.

Anyone else find any other uses for those things?

I got the boxes at Circuit City. They are Zenith, which seemed to be the only ones they carried. They were $59.99 before the $40.00 coupon credit.

The salesman said, they previously had others, but quit handling them.

I too can appreciate the decrease in TV watching because of this wonderful forum! I have Verizon FIOS TV, so I already have great cable, but I ordered two of the converter boxes anyway. One, because it means I don't need to pay the monthly cable box fee on 2 TVs (although I will only get local channels), and two, because they are really cool!(picture quality is excellent and increased number of channels) I would strongly recommend that you guys go to Meritline.com. They will sell you 2 boxes for $14.99 (yes, you read that correctly) after using your coupons online ($80 discount) and the shipping is free! I just tracked my order and they should be here via FedEx in a few days. Sweet!!! :-)

Some lucky folks will get more TV, but we'll be losing. The digital signals do not bend in the atmosphere like analog. Here at home I think we'll be OK but might lose ABC, but at the cottage we will no longer get NBC. My mother in laws house in a small town 42 miles from here gets ZERO digital over the air. Come next Feb LOT's of people will have no TV or lose some channels.

I spoke with tech at the TV station. He said "Yup, not everyone will be happy and there's nothing we can do about it". I asked if a better converter box might help & he said no, the more expensive ones may have more bells and whistles, but not better reception. I also asked if they might build extra towers to get the signal to other places & he told me that right now it is not legal for them to do so and even if it were he doubted stations would spend the money. You'd need extra towers on every little hilltop.
